Hello,
Name is Josh and I have been in the hobby for about 10yrs. Mainly kept planted rainbow tanks and some nano shrimp tanks. Found a 90 gallon setup on CL a few weeks ago. Looking to get into the cichlid side of the hobby. Not sure what I want to do. First is refinishing the stand and canopy to a darker color so the wife lets me set up this show tank in our living room. Thinking about a peacock/hap tank - all males? Anyone from around my area? Seems like most of the good stuff is located in the Grand Rapids or Detroit areas...
Thanks for having me!
Josh

I have had africans on and off for about ten years. You should try to make the auction this saturday. there tends to be more africans then anything else.

Hi and welcome to the forum. While I am new to the hobby myself, let me pass on some information that I have found. I too love the look of a all Male Hap/Peacock tank, but since its a bit of a game to get the right mix, I wouldn't suggest this path unless you have some additional tanks to move fish around. Each addition of a fish to this setup can change the dynamics in the tank, sometimes you can just temporarily rehome a fish to let the tank mellow out a bit, other times it may call for a permanent rehome. Also having your decorations such that you can move them around to change up territories can be a helpful trick. I wish you the best of luck, as a all male tank can be very colorful and a wonderful display indeed.
As for obtaining stock, while you might not be ready to put fish in your tank now. It doesn't hurt to come to the auction. You can meet some of the local hobbiests and see what they are keeping/breeding. Plus the side benefit is you get to see all the cool fish.

Welcome! I'm from the G.R. area and always hear that the good cichlid offerings are on the east side of the state.....lots of live bearer guys around here. But if you meet enough people and look hard enough I bet you'll find what you're after. A good place to start would be the club meetings and auctions.

Thankyou all for the warm welcome. I have been into Tropical Tails and talked to Larry (strange creature himself) and plan to start with him.
