Title: another sump question :)
Post by: RichE on October 23, 2013, 01:39:48 PM
Since the tank is 8ft long, should I have a stack at both ends and connect them under the tank and make it one drain in to the sump or Will One be enough and use the other end that's drilled in the bottom and make that my return?

So Picture at each end of the tank there are bulkheads in the bottom, i can connect them underneath to create one drain or I could use only one.

If I was to use both and connect the pipe underneath, would it work to run the return pipe right up the middle (back of tank) and have a spray bar going across the back?

I am trying to get it "dry" plumbed before I beg for help moving it LOL

If you're expecting the sump to handle mechanical filtration, do you also expect fish waste to travel almost 8' to the one end if you only have a single drain/overflow?

So it would be best to have stand pipes at each end, and then I can have the return in the middle.

This way there is a "drain" at each end and the spray bar will be 6ft or so.

I will also have a power head or 2 for water movement.

Am I making sense, as I can picture it in my mind but dont have a program to draw it out

8ft tank... if I had the option, I would have one in the middle too.

Hey Rich when you run your plumbing from your bulkheads to your sump make sure they have angle to them, they should be ok at any length.
