I rank #100 out of 100 with Detroit Edison - Home Energy Report.
I used 177% more electricity than my neighbors.
They suggest replacing with Energy Star Appliances.....phew thankfully they didn't suggest reducing my tanks.
I can't just blame the tanks, my teenage daughters don't know how to turn off a light switch. Plus with the AC, TVs, computers, chargers and not stop laundry I am surprised the meter hasn't overheated from spinning so fast.

Any risk that the local PD might have you on watch for being a grow house using that much more electricity than all the neighbors?
Did Edison send you a special mailer with that information or was it part of the standard billing?
-
I agree - Edision must have some sort of program going on because I was around the same !
Between the pool, tanks, AC, TV, computers, hair driers, curling irons, toaster oven, dryer, my electric bills are outragious.....

If they watch long enough, they see people leaving the house with clear bags :)
It was a special mailer, that contained a 'Home Energy Report'. I am sure I was targeted.

Maybe you guys need to figure out how to use solar or wind turbine for your fish rooms.
Then you could buy more fish, and tanks.

I feel better. Mine was only 77% more than my neighbors. A lot more than my 'efficient' neighbors. Most of the people on my street are retired, only like 4-5 families with small kids so less laundry, no fish tanks, etc...I'm surprised I'm not higher. :)
-
You have me beat Jon, I was only 153%
-
Glad to hear I'm not alone, though I wish i wasn't in your company.
-
Mine was 184%. Guess I drew the short straw.

Consumers said we were 170% or something for our block or however they do it. But our bill was also 300 plus dollars then it dropped down to 140 the past couple months... we asked them why it was so high when we were using less and they could tell us.

After reading this I went & found mine.... I got all happy & was ready to come tell you guys to suck it, after seeing 80%.
Then I noticed that was only for one month & my yearly was..... 209%!!!!
Who's got the chicken dinner for this winner? :P
-
they brought us over a box of led and compact light bulbs call them and say its they have a error.
-
My average was 184%. Last month I was 218% more.
-
Where is this found?

Apparently we all got letters in the mail. At least I did.
-
Yep, sounds like a conspiracy! :o
-
Maybe someone could develop a fish powered water turbine to recapture the energy and put it back into your systems. ;)
-
I'm glad my bill was only 67 bucks this month but I'm down to 6 tanks. :(
-
Got my letter finally. I wasnt the top, but I was up there. I think 88%. But, I am also living in a farming area, so those are probably the people above me.
I just got this in an email also.

What this tells me is that you don't have enough tanks. You are to close to the average. :P

I noticed during a/c season that consumers almost doubled the rate per kwh once we hit 2000kwh

so you're saying that there is a benefit to me being AC less? :P

When I got into the hobby I was buying fish from a breeder and noticed his fish room was lined with thick sheets of insulated foam panels. I now have confirmed thru the use of a watt meter that my hobby is costing me about $75 per month, mostly from heaters and a dehumidifier running 24/7 (all my 20 tanks have lids). I am going to Lowes this weekend for a good space heater (gas is way cheaper) and some panel boards. Maybe I should raise guppies and gold fish ..... nahhh
