Title: Site newsletter feedback
Post by: Marty on October 20, 2013, 01:49:30 AM
I just used the site "newsletter" function to send out an email.  Please let me know if you haven't received it, but please check your spam folder first if it isn't in your inbox  ;D

Steve, check in a little bit.   I've seen it take as long as 2 hours to go through.

Not in either of those either.
I've checked my account settings and my email address looks right there.
I'll shoot you a pm with my details in it for your verification.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I've checked, and I'm not seeing anything obvious that would block delivery on this end.  I think I'll have to start using the other program to send out notifications.

FYI, the newsletter announced elections, the MCA bonfire, and the November meeting (the lighting workshop).

I never did. Funny thing is the past few days now I don't even get emails letting me know when I have a PM like I use to get.

If I remember correctly, you had some computer problems and probably reset some stuff up?

Check your junk mail folders and make sure they are not there.  Happened to me before.

My home email account does not  even have a spam/junk folder, just a trash folder which I have to put stuff in manually. My home email which I use for this forum is hosted through my cable company so when I reformatted my HD it didn't affect any of my emails settings. The weird thing is the email notifications for PM's is hit or miss. Like yesterday, I had about 5-6 PM's yet I only got notifications on 2 of them :o Now today I had about 3 Pm's and no notifications on any of them. Odd stuff for sure.

FWIW, I never got a newsletter email, but also have my account settings disable for the "allow other users to email me" setting. I'm not sure if that would impact what you tried to do, but it may and might explain why some people here got it and others didn't.

I didn't get a newsletter either.  Just checked my settings, and they allow emails.

Look for a logo that says "mail chimp" toward the bottom of the email.  If it's on there, that's one I just sent out through a different mail service.  Otherwise you just received the original one very late.

Don't see anything like that Marty. I'll copy&paste the entire email I just got to ya just so you can maybe see if it's the original or latest one because I can't tell.

Got one.
It begins by apologizing if this is the second email I've received, so I'm assuming it's the second one.
Doesn't say "mail chimp" that I can see though.

You're on both mail lists.  Try checking your spam and trash folders in case it got picked out by your spam filter.

I think I'm just going to use the Mail Chimp service from now on.  It gives a lot of useful information like which emails are bad, how many people open the emails, and how many people click the links.

A friend of mine has used this for notifications about conferences, etc (like 300+ attendees and at least double that in recipients) and was quite pleased.  I think he still uses it.

I like it so far.  I have almost no html knowledge, so I can't really take advantage of all of the options, but I'm hoping to learn (or find someone more computer literate than myself to help).

We have about 640 email addresses in our database, and the service is free for 5000 messages a month.
