I've tried a little of everything over the years, esp since my fish have changed many times over those years..
I prefer buying in bulk.. It's usually cheaper and goes farther cuz my fish are pigs! Haha
I've purchased from Ken's before, I've also bought bulk pellets from Preuss..
My main concerns are the best for color in my yellow labs and the different needs of my petricola..
Suggestions, opinions, any other advice anyone might have..
Currently using Spectrum H2O stable wafers for the cats and standard cichlid pellets for my yellows.. Along with a pinch or 2 of tropical flake for the rest of the gang.

So far I have used 100% NLS 3mm pellets and Veggie flakes. I just got a couple pounds of "Plecocaine" from Chris's group buy so once I have had a chance to use that for a bit we'll see how that compares. But as of now, I'm a big NLS pellet guy myself.

IMHO Plecocane for pellets and Kens premium sprulina flake:)

When I only had a few tanks going I would only feed NLS. I believe it to be the best for color, growth and overall health. Unfortunately it is expensive and hard to keep in stock with 25 tanks running so now I supplement it in. If youcan aafford it I 100% would feed only NLS.

Best food? For what type/types of fish? The answers vary depending on the fish involved IMO.

She may be asking more broadly but she did mention 'for color in my yellow labs and the different diet needed for my petricola'.

I use NLS and then switch to flake food from Ken's every other feeding. Couldn't be happier. I got three or four kinds from Ken and made my own mix.

Is Ken's flake food a better deal than Wet Thumb flakes ?

I really like the NLS 3mm pellets, my fish inhale them and the color they exhibit is amazing.

Good call. :-[
For those two, my vote would be 50/50 to 20/80, a high content spirulina flake and NLS, respectively.

be sure to read the information closely
Dainichi veggie
"Oscarfish.Com Rating: 5 Stars
Sufficient (assumed high quality) preferred proteins and use of Calcium montmorillonie clay borderlone justify, at minimum, a high level 4 star rating. Even if absent Ethoxyquin, likely use of synthetic vitamin K and the ratio of non-preferred protein sources remain concerns. Based upon the quality and quantity of preferred proteins, including sufficient preferred plant proteins, we'll assume the ratio of preferred proteins to non-preferred proteins and binders sides on the positive and award this food a 5 star rating
"
NLS Thera A
"Oscarfish.Com Rating: 4.5 Stars
The high quality of preferred ingredients in this food would easily justify rating this as a 6 star food. However, the potential use of Ethoxyquin prevents rating it above a 4 star food. A shame as this is perhaps the best list of ingredients and preferred proteins available. The combination of high quality whole animal protein and preferred plant products, as a natural source of vitamins and minerals, would otherwise rank this food as premium. It seems an injustice to rate this as a 4 star food but until the Ethoxyquin question is answered, it cannot be rated higher.
"
I only use thera, and while reading over what I use and what they rate the highest both have the exact problem neither one says they do use Ethoxyquin or not use it but Dainichi receives a higher rating and has much lower quality of proteins seems like a very poorly interpretation of the products. They are going off there Sales slogan stating everything is safe for human consumption into this product.
I do like how its stated that the Thera A is the only food that could be close to the 6rating based on what it uses the Ethoxyguin or the vitamin k montmorillonie or neither.
Just some more food for thought!

Thank you all very much.. I'll probably stick with the NLS and get some good spirulina food! Probably pellets, my fish seem to be drawn to pellets more than flake... But you never know, if it's really good, they might not care! Haha

Rack up another vote for NLS and spirulina flake.
