Disagree on that one being the first. I've had a few break the line in my years of fishing. ;)
Not sure I agree with doing that though.
I also find it intriguing how this article is found on a site called "Practical Fishkeeping".

I'm with ya Ron, There are a few rather (Large) small mouth bass in lake st clair that were swimming away pierced:)

Not really something I agree with at all. Not just doing it, but what might happen later too. I'd be afraid other fish would pick at it/pull on it, or he'd get it hooked on some wood or something :-\
