looking for info on cichlids on the net like to reed about what I bought a the auction.. and other fish... and ideas
-
A good place to begin would be at cichlid-forum.com where this is a variety of good basic information on most commonly (and not so commonly available) cichlid species both Old World and New World. There are other sites but this is quite useful as a way to get enough good information to get started. It also is a great site to read about species BEFORE you obtain them so you can look for them at auctions and in the For Sale or Trade section on this forum or elsewhere. Also, contacting the sellers/breeders of the fish you picked up is not a bad way to get useful information, too. Enjoy!

And you are always welcome to fire off questions here at any time about anything. I learned more here than anywhere else.

Malawimayhem.com has some good profiles. But, you have to register in order to view more than 3 in a 24 hour period.
Cichlid room companion has the most up to date & correct info. But, it's $30/yr
Fishbase is a good one. But, there isn't any pictures.

I have used this site for info and pictures:

This is a good source of info as well:

And this is also a very good source for DYI projects:

If you have specific questions, there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here in various areas.
If you aren't even sure what to ask for questions, but want to learn more....
For malawians, this is/was one of my favorite sites. They redesigned it at some point, expanding it beyond cichlids, and now everything is hard/confusing to find, if it even exists at all. If you enter through the MCH portal, you'll know what I mean. Here's a link to the original layout/content.

The fish list (http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aquarium/fish_list.html) is one of the best I've seen because for a lot of species there's multiple large photos, extra information, etc. There are also lots of good articles.

^Agreed, that's one of the best references around online. They use to have more free content IIRC. I tried looking at it last night when the OP was made, but couldn't find the articles that used to be available.
