I been a Tigers fan since about the early 90's when I use to watch games with my grandpa, suffered through the bad years in the late 90's early 2000 yet still went to the old Stadium before CP and enjoyed just being at the ballpark. But.....we are looking at another Championship again this year. Anyone else looking forward to some October Tiger baseball!
Last years vid, but IMO one of the better tributes ;)

I was thinking I'd like to hit one of the playoff games (Tigers) this year, usually it's myself and sister&fam that go (5 of us) but after seeing the playoff game tix prices ($60-$125) per seat I think I'll pass :o Standing room only was even $35.

The Tigers just lost 3-in a row to the Miami Marlins--which they should have beaten easily. The Tiger lost the last game in a no-hit shut-out. Pathetic!! For some reason-the past 2-months or so--they have had a difficult time scoring runs. They have loaded the bases many times-no-outs and no runs came in whatsoever!!
Now-they are going to play against the Oakland A's...LOL...the Tigers with their "lackluster" hitting--will be defeated. The commentators and other sports related programs have talked about the Tigers inability to bring runners in from the bases and it's going to hurt them. Oakland will show No-Mercy.....I like the Tigers and either watched them play on TV or listened on the radio and am disappointed on their lack of runs. They have batters that are fortunate to even get to base. They may have won first place--but--I seriously doubt they will go any further! Oakland will win--unless the Tigers get off their lazy batting posteriors and come alive and knock-off this foolishness of not getting runs home. Say what you want--people have noticed the Tigers hitting is in a bad slump and the play-offs are going to not be easy. :(
-
Yeah that game today was really pathetic for sure. They need to step it up for the playoffs or it will be a very short run :-[

*** I fully agree with you and they were shut-down..pathetic indeed!!. What a joke it was. Honestly, it seemed like they didn't care-seriously. I agree-the play-offs for them may be short...would not surprise me..their hitting is poor. :( ***

It was a good pitching dual.
They have till friday and in my baseball opinion Leyland isnt going to let these guys just "practice" over the next 5 1/2 days. They are going to learn how to play baseball and play it good, if not he wont be back next year.

** If ... Leyland... gets his team to practice hard and learn to play Real Baseball-they will increase their chances of winning. Getting runs home--better defense--stop the relentless and easy to steal 2nd. base against them and sharpen their Relief Pitchers-who are terrible--worse I have ever seen!! Also-the inability to get runs in the late innings--as if they were "just tooo tired" to play. Pathetic. No improvement--Q.E.D.-- :( :( **
-
I honestly hope that Leyland does not come back next year. I never have liked the way he manages the team, especially the way he handles the pitchers.

~~ Surprised he lasted this long. Replacing him next year would be a wise choice. I was hoping he would have been replaced this year. He may have become tooo complacent/passive and not aggressive towards getting his team to get moving!! ~~
-
Playoffs start tonight!
-
I hope Magic Max has the good stuff going, going to be a great series..:)
-
Max pitched "excellent" mowing down batter after batter!! He made a serious mistake by giving up that 2-run homer which brought Oakland to withing' one 1 to tie. He settled-down after that and got the next 3-out. The relief pitchers did their work and the Tigers won!! ;D I started blowing the air-horn and shouting!! I could only hear it on radio while driving--wished I could have watched it. :( Tonight-I shall be able to sit but not relax and view the game. It makes me nervous...lol...I know Oakland has a number of all power-hitters!! I will be sitting on the edge of the couch..."strike-em'-out!! 8)
Tonight Verlander--will have to see if he still has his pitching abilities and hope to win game 2--or--he may fall apart early like he has done in the past. I wish him Success!! 8)
-
Oakland makes me nervous. They have done some damage this year. Time for Verlander to earn his money. Does anyone else notice that the Tigers never seem to try and steal? Whats up with that. We have a couple guys that are speedy. Austin Jackson should be at least trying. Jose Iglesias is a speedy one too.
Anyway, Go Tigers...and Wings...and UofM...and MSU.
-
That's part of the issues I have with Leyland and the way he manages the team. We have two guys now that have speed, yet very rarely does he ever give the sign for a straight up steal, or a squeeze play when needed. Small ball is what wins tight games, and just putting the thought of stealing in the other teams mind works for you as well.
Max was excellent last night, I expected nothing less though he's been perfect this year. I'm really looking forward to seeing what JV does tonight. Hopefully he does a job worthy or his pay and we can go up 2-0.

** I agree with you about Oakland....they make me nervous also. At anytime-they will "explode" and get a number of runs and the Tigers may not be able to match them. :( **

There are players on the Tigers team that when they come to bat-you know they are an almost an automatic out. When I see them at bat--good grief--that's an out and they are!! :(
Dirks-Avilia-Castellanos-both Pena's-Kelly-Tuiasosopo and Santiago. Fielder--for awhile went into a bad slump and couldn't get on base unless he was walked-or-hit by pitch.!! LOL 8)
Iglesias is a good shortstop--but lacks hitting.

I don't know what was worse tonight. Watching the Tigers not able to push even a single run across the plate, or having to endure 3.5hrs of crap announcing by Dennis Eckersley & Buck Martinez.
-
Well..the Tigers lost game 2 of the play-offs. Never even got a run. Back to the way they played 2 games ago--men on base--left them there. Their offense is pathetic.....Period!! They at least leave with 1-out-of 2 games in Oakland. Time to go Home and hopefully their bats will come alive and finish the A's in Detroit.....that is --IF--the can bat offense comes alive instead of this past game. I feel sorry for Verlander--he did quite well--his team let him down again!! The offense was Terrible. :( :( >:(

True that our offense is struggling at the moment, but credit also has to go to that kid Gray, he pitched a beautiful game tonight which did not help our already struggling offense.

** I can handle the-chat-it's the Lack of Timely Hitting and getting runs in that bothers me. Back to the way they were. Now people know why the sports reporters etc. have said the Tigers have No Offense to bring runs home and it's poor timing for them to have weak/poor hitting!! **

** Yes-the Oakland pitcher did a fine job-and so did Verlander. Offense..??..what Tiger Offense..??..if any-it's trivial!! Jackson-Hunter-Fielder-Martinez-(and of course Miggy-has trouble because of his strain/injury-but at least he got a hit)-. just were useless. I sure hope it changes in Detroit...otherwise, it's over. :( **
-
Come on now we didn't get here by chance ;) Our offense is a very streaky one all Tiger fans know that, it's been that way all season so we know what to expect. There's been numerous times this season where we went 3 games in a row scoring only 1 or 2 runs then came back and put up some 10+ run games right after that stretch. There's still plenty of ball left to play it ain't over till the last pitch of the game.
-
IF the Tigers can Win the next 2-games in Detroit- ;D-it's over and they continue towards the World Series!!
I really hope they get their act together and the Tiger fans as loud as they did in Oakland-if not more!! 8)
I am still for them--just disappointed how poorly their batting was today...still pulling for them to defeat Oakland!!
GO TIGERS...and... send Oakland packing!! ;D
-
Just taking even one of these next 2 home games still gives us a real chance at the series because remember, if it goes to a game 5 we'll have Max back on the mound for that one 8)

Tigers Batters--Snooze and Looze!! :( :( >:(
Like he said--the Tigers haven't scored a run in 17 innings since they scored 3-runs in the first inning in Game One. What does that tell you..??..the Pitching has done the job--the hitting is asleep!! >:(
-
I'm not saying our offense is not asleep, it is that's for sure. I'm just saying I know this team and this isn't the first time this season we have done this. As I said before we have probably the most streaky offense in the league and there's been numerous times where they will go a few games being shut out only to all the sudden get a fire going and put up some double digit run wins. We have a great hitting team, yes sometimes they go through these hitless spells, but a team stacked with as many good hitters as we have won't stay runless for long. All it takes is one spark to get them all going again and coming home to Comerica, with Sanchez starting Monday, I'm not ready to stick a fork in them yet by any means.
-

Agree. Splitting in their house is a good start. Just need the guys to start hitting. A stronger closer would be nice too.
-
Am I the only one that can't find the game on TV Monday?? are you kidding me? I see Comcast is showing it but nothing on the Wide Open West channels??????!!!!
-
1pm on MLBN. Channel 152 on Dish.
-
I've got "WOW" no dish or Comcast. I've been thinking about switching to Comcast lately though so this just made my mind up for me >:(

Day games... I HATE weekday day games.

6-3 A's top of the 8th....I hate to say it but I may have to start polishing my fork soon :-[

** Polishing your fork--as in prep. to Eating Crow..? ::)?..I think the season is over. Their previous weeks of no-hitting has caught up with them and at the wrong time. :( **
-
Not entirely ready to give up yet but it's not looking good by any means. No not eating crow, I said the whole time that I agreed the hitting was streaky, it's just right now it seems to be one of the worse downward sloping streaks of the year. Very bad time for that to happen during the playoffs that's for sure. Fister has been pretty good all year though so if he can do his job today and IF the bats can get going we'll maybe be able to tie it up.
A wise man would shake the lineup up a bit IMO to try to make something happen, but then again we have Smokey at the helm so the wise man hope goes out the window lol.

I just finished building this custom fly rod for a customer, thought it fit in this thread well ;) ;D

~~~ IF I AM LISTENING ON THE RADIO WHILE DRIVING TRUCK--MY FACE GETS HOT AND I TURN THE A/C ON--EVEN IF IT'S COOL OUTSIDE...LOL ~~~ 8)
-
It was a crazy game man. They sucked for 5 innings, then finally a blup by Fielder and then a single and Johnny P with a much needed homer. Then watching Max load the bases with NO OUTS only to strike out the next two and then fly out the 3rd hitter to get out of the inning without a run scored after bases loaded no outs...just wow. Then the HR was reviewed, jackson finally getting that broken bat single for a rib after 10 strikeouts, I could go on and on but lets just say that was one of the best games as well as one of the most stressful I have seen all season.
I'm just glad tomorrow is an off day because my blood pressure could not handle two games in a row like that ;D
-
And now, Verlander !!! ???
I hope he pitches like his last game, instead of the rest of the season.
-
This series... I just want it over.
:o
-
Yes, its a good game tonight. 4 run 6th inning. Have to go to bed though. ;D
Go Tigers.
-
Yep I can finally breath a bit now. Really great to see Alex get that HR and start his bat again the past game or two. If we take this game then Boston is in BIG trouble because JV starts Tuesday.
-
Tie game now and why....because yet again that stupid ass old man Leyland overmanages the pitchers and took Max out before he should have. Moron moron moron!
-
And game over and lost. That was a game we had in the bag and yet again because of Leyland and his irrational need to pull pitchers before they give him a real reason to do so, as well as his constant pitcher parade he trots out every 8 & 9th innings in games we lost.
I swear no matter if we win or lose everything this year....even as big a Tiger fan as I am, IF Leyland is still there next year I will not go to or watch another game until he is gone. I just can't take watching a skipper waste so many good performances and losing games because of the moves he makes.
** It was a gut wrenching loss!! :( That relief pitcher...Bad Pitcher Benoit...really is pathetic!! Appx...Three days ago-the Tigers were leading by 4-runs...he comes in and immediately gives 2-back before ending the game!! That's Bad!! I really don't trust him at all!! >:( The Tigers had that game all-wrapped-up and would have been returning back to Detroit with a 2-0 lead...but Noooo.....Benoit makes sure that doesn't happen!! I couldn't understand why Leyland changes the pitchers....the one Benoit replaced was doing good---took him out and in came..."the one who threw the game away".!! I would Not Doubt his team-mates are Not toooo happy with Benoit.!! Reminds me of when Valverde went bad and threw games away!! That pitcher needs to be pitched into the delete file!! 8) Now--it's back to the start again--Leyland doesn't seem to accept responsibility for his actions. "Well, it's the play-offs"...he replies....hey-how about YOU messing up!! :( I knew that guy was -dangerous- and a home run hitter--he proved me correct!! That Grand Slam really hurt the fans and team members. I wouldn't want to be in Benoit's shoes.....that................ pitcher. :o **
-
Darn, I should have stayed up to watch the game. Then they would have won, right?
-
It brings back flash backs of Fernado Rodney,Papa Granda, Todd Jones.
Leyland puts to much faith in the "closer" when they dont need him.
-
Leyland's problem is he's too damn stuck on pitch counts and lefty/right match ups. The main issue I have with him is he overmanages the pitching staff. Just like last night, I fully put 100% of that loss on Leyland. Max was only at 108 pitches, he was completely dominating the Sox hitter and had a no hitter going till the bottom of the 6th were he gave up a single and double. Your ahead by 5 runs, it's bottom of the 6th, your ACE is on the mound and been un-hitable the entire game, he's only thrown 108 pitches. WHY in Gods name would you pull him at that point to go to a bullpen which every Tigers fan watching has known all year is "shaky" at best.
Then not only do you go to the shaky bullpen, but you change pitchers every damn hitter for no reason at all. Take a look at the pitch counts that moron used after taking Max out of the game...
Veras -- 3 pitches
Smyly -- 6 pitches
Alburquerque -- 8 pitches
Benoit -- 8 pitches
Porcello -- 9 pitches
When you run a parade of pitchers out there your' bound to find at least one or two that are having an off night. With Max at only 108 pitches and as dominating as he was he should have been left in there for at least one more inning, maybe even two more depending on how he felt. When you have a pitcher doing what he was doing on the mound you leave him in till he gives you a REASON to pull him out. Not because of the sequence of pitchers you like on paper (which BTW fails about 65% of the time). Never pull a pitcher that is doing well just because you have a "set up man".
Pitch counts have ruined baseball, Jim Leyland is way to pig headed in buying into this whole crap that pitchers should stay around 100 pitches. Back in the older day pitchers use to throw almost 250 pitches, even as recent at the 80's a pitcher pitched until he got tired and started giving up runs. Today a pitcher gets yanked at about 100-110 even if he is doing really well, that's BS. I'm not saying to go 200 pitches, but this is the playoffs, 130-140 pitches is not unreasonable, you don't pull a pitcher that is pitching like Max was for any reason other than he's not pitching well, and he was still pitching one of the best games I had ever seen. In the 80's do you think sparky would have pulled Jack Morris out just because he was at 108 pitches?? NOT.
As you can tell I am not a Leyland fan and I've been saying for the past 6 years that we win games despite Jim Layland, not because of him. Yet I honestly believe we will never win another World Series until Leyland is gone.
I'm still fuming over his bonehead moves last night as you can tell.
-
And while were on the subject of pigheaded Leyland ;D Just another example of how pigheaded and stupid that old coot is. CHANGE THE FRIGGIN LINEUP ALREADY!! I like Jackson, always have, but he's been striking out all over the place for the past 4-6 weeks...why is he still in the leadoff spot? He's got a guy with a .100 average leading off, and then a guy that carried a .342 average (Infante) hitting in the #8 slot...WTF??? If he would simply swap them with how much Omar gets on base and Miggy, Prince, V-mart batting behind him I would wager a bet we'd have at least 1-2 more runs per game...but nope, Jimmy boy is to pigheaded yet again.
And can someone please tell me why in Gods name he continues to play Don Kelly in post season games????????
There...I feel a bit better now lol
-
Game 3 is a day game today, starts about 4pm just in case anyone didn't know the start time for today.
-
Hope you took your blood pressure medicine or a valium today Steve.
-
I don't think even that'll help ;D
-
Can't hurt. Now the pitchers have to wait and try to stay relaxed while the power and dumb scoreboards act up.
-
My plan worked!
Now to get home to watch the game!
-
My plan worked!
Now to get home to watch the game!
LOL. Hurry up and get home because there is vintage Verlander on display today. He's flat out DEALING! 6 K's in a row the past two innings 8)
-
Once again... no support from the bats for Verlander.
>:(
-
They had their chances to score...but as usual...they left the men on base. In the 8th. inning...the Tigers had men on 1st and 3rd.. with one out and all Miggy had to do was fly-out to tie the game. He swung at pitches that were "away" from the plate, shouldn't even swing at those pitches--way away from plate--they were "surprised" he even did that!! He struck-out and then Fielder does his usual strike-out. End of efforts and of course--Martinez gets on in the 9th and Peralta--well--double-play.... :(....and of course nothing-as usual. They blew another chance to get ahead a game....Verlander did very good--team-mates failed him again. :(
It was a pitcher's duel--1 run would be the deciding factor, and it was. Their bats really go to sleep at times. Jackson and Hunter have surely slipped in these play-offs.
-
Yep yet again no offense to help a great pitching effort. I really hate to say it because I really like him...but I'm starting to feel like Prince was a $214million mistake. He is to big to be real good with the glove, he has no speed, and honestly his bat has not been good all year. He's no different than our old first baseman Sean Casey use to be only costs more.
Leyland needs to wake the hell up and get Jackson off the lead off spot. We start every inning with one out already just because of Jackson and that fact Leyland is so pig headed that he wont swap Omar to lead off rather than Jackson. Tori has not been quite up to usual par but he still has been doing better than most the rest of the guys.
Martinez, Peralta, and Infante plus the starting pitchers seem to be the only ones that decided to play in the post season.
The team is not playing up to snuff at all, Leyland lost whatever talent he had for being a skipper about 3 years ago and when you combine those two things it spells the end of the season. I won't totally give up on us but it honestly is not looking very good at this point unless something changes.
-
So far so good. Thank God he FINALLY moved AJ out of the leadoff and put Tori in there. That's already paid off with Tori batting in 2 runs so far. Just gotta hold this lead and hope he doesn't go to the bullpen before need be.
-
*** I agree with you and it has been quite a diff-game tonight. The skipper-finally-made a line-up change that has proven to be what the Tigers needed. 8) ***
-
I was happy to see Austin get a steal. Couldn't believe Miggy got one. LOL, even if it was from defensive indifference.
-
Tonight was a totally different game from the past two series for us. I was not feeling too upbeat about our chances before the game. Soon as I heard the lineup change about an hour before start time that made me feel a bit better about this game. Now that it's 2-2 series with Sanchez tomorrow then Max after that as well as the good hits and steals tonight I thinking things may be looking up even more now.
Prince REALLY needs to get going though. I like Prince but man that guy is making 214 million and not doing anything at all for us for the past year to be honest. If he would start hitting even a bit then we'd be looking so much better for our chances.
I am really impressed with Iglesias as well. Not only does he have some super fast hands, but wow can he get down that first baseline in a hurry to beat out a throw 8)
-
The Tigers did a Good Job tonight with their offense and defense!! Relief pitcher Smyly did well and then in the 9th inning came...."oh no Benoit"....I hated to see that pitcher again!! Once again-he gave away another run before "finally" closing out the game. Hasn't Leyland seen/learned enough-NOT-to put Benoit to pitch..??..what if it was Tigers 3 and Boston 2 and the run came back and tied the game because of Benoit..??..sorry----but I believe it is Unwise to place him on the pitchers mound unless you are leading by 7-10 runs!!!!! ::) Benoit is "the answer" to losing won games!! :(
I can't believe Miggy stole a base...LOL... ;D .... I watched the replay of it and laughed.!! He can't run well due to his injuries etc. That was great!! 8)
I am quite pleased with tonight's Tigers performance--they tried hard and Won!! Nice going team--I wish you Success and a Win tomorrow in Detroit and in Boston to "wrap it up and finish it off".!! ;D
-
Yeah Benoit really makes me stress out anytime he comes in. He has good days and bad days and you never know what you'll get. Back when Valverde went down the tubes and we were looking for who the closer role was gonna go too I was really hoping Smyly would get it. I know he's young but he has the type of stuff that can get guys out and he does seem to handle stress situations quite well.
Yeah I was laughing when Miggy stole 2nd as well. I was looking down working on something and heard them say Miggy steals 2nd base and I looked up and said "WHAT??" ;D
*** Benoit apparently " stresses us both out" when he is on the mound. ~I recall game 2 :( ~ Lately-he just keeps giving runs back and then closes. :o He reminds me of Valverde--giving runs back and losing won games. Did you notice the "faces" of the Tigers team when the camera went to the dug-out while Benoit pitched--I didn't see any happiness--looked like they were (rightfully) worried!! Smyly is a good pitcher and I heard the sportscasters say that he might possibly be considered a starter sometime. Not sure he has that stamina to go the distance-would have to "see and find out".!! Very Good relief pitcher--although he has come to the mound on occasion and disaster. Relief Yes--Starter..??..hhhmmmm..?? ::) I believe Smyly has a future in pitching indeed and Iglesia may very well become a Golden Glove Shortstop....excellent defensive player--just can't hit worth a hoot--unless he outruns the hit to first--he can RUN--LOL--even catches fly balls Miggy cannot move quick enough. He runs all the way from shortstop to catch a foul ball long before Miggy gets there!! Good Thing he is at Shortstop--someone help him bat better!! ;D ***
I was also "distracted" when I heard Miggy stole a base...WHAT...replay confirmed and I laughed....he wasn't moving fast at all....they could have got him...LOL 8)
~~ I think Fielder is "over-paid". He isn't doing much but making plenty of outs. I Trust Martinez more then Fielder. Fielder-has become more of an out than a hit. :( ~~
Smyly actually was a starting pitcher for us last year. We picked him up in 2010 and he stayed in the minors all 2011, but he was in our starting rotation last year most the 2012 season. It was when we picked up Sanchez in August 2012 that we switched Smyly to a relief pitcher. For the 5 months that Smyly was a starter for us though is had a 4-3 record over 99 innings with almost 100 k's and I believe he was had a ERA in the high 3's like 3.8 or 3.9.
Just checked , he had a 3.99 ERA as a starter
-
If it isn't rained-out, today's game will have an evenly matched pitchers duel. Anibal Sanchez (15-9) Vs. Jon Lester (16-9) Sanchez's era is lower. 8)
-
Should be a great game today that's for sure. With Sanchez on the mound IF our hitting is still like it was last night then we should have a better than average chance at pulling ahead in the series tonight. We'll see though.I have a feeling the Sox are gonna take a lot of pitches today to try to drive Sanchez count up and make our bullpen come in to play. At least that would be the wise choice for them.
-
Not sure WTH was wrong with Sanchez tonight be he wasn't half the pitcher he was just 5 days ago :o I'm getting real tired of losing 1 run games this year.
I got some advice for Fielder........HIT THE FRIGGIN BALL!!!!
-
I believe it is-over-for the Tigers. Boston will finish them of in Boston. It is over.. :(..Best to end it now and wait until next season and maybe get a couple more good batters and good-decent-effective relief pitchers.
Fielder Stinks!! >:( Overpaid batter--trade him for a more effective batter!!
That wild-pitch by Sanchez made All The Difference between losing the game and tying. He lost the games as well as the batters not quite doing their job. I say it is over and the Tigers I think might see the end is near!! :(
-
Look at Miggy..he surely looks disappointed--can't blame him-the whole team is allowing the series to slip away!! He had a chance to hit get a tying run in by simply flying-out. He hits into a double-play and it's over!! >:(
I'm not giving up just yet because the next two games are Max and JV so we have a chance still, but I'd say we have maybe a 25% chance at best the way it looks now :-\
Did you see that running swooping grab by iglesias last night? wow that kid is gonna be an all-star shortstop 8)
-
There were a few close calls at first and second that didnt go our way.
and for the love of god, Put fielder in the 9 hole or bench him.
He is way over rated
The guy who should the most props is Alex A. That guy has taken a beating behind the plate and just keeps on going till he cant any more
-
Yeah I feel bad for Alex that guy gets beat up more than anyone in the game, and it happens every single year for some reason.
-
Just a little bump last night, lol as long as it isn't me. At least it wasn't a concussion like last year.
-
Yet again Leyland and his pitching parade screw us and leads to a grand slam HR. This game game as well as season are over.
-
The Tigers losing 2-out-of-3-in Detroit...well...it showed what to expect in Boston. As usual...Fielder was--useless--as was Auto-out Avila and the regular zero hitters. They are NOT yet the team to be to go into the World Series and Win. :(
Now, it's the St. Louis Cardinals VS. The Boston Red Sox. in the World Series.
"The Enemy of My Enemy...Is My Friend.!!" ;D
Go Cardinals!! 8)
-
The old phrase..."wait until next year"...applies to the Tigers. :(
Better to have lost now--than to be embarrassed by losing the World Series twice in a row.
I wonder what the Tiger players are talking about now.
I agree-that-Fielder is Way-Over-Paid!! He just fizzled-out. :o
-
I still just don't know was going through that big empty head of his when he stopped halfway to home plate and then belly flopped into a double play trying to get back to 3rd, that was probably one of the worst base running errors I have ever seen. I just hope his huge contract doesn't cost us Scherzer because Max's contract is up now so if we end up losing Max because there's not enough money then that's gonna make fielder an even bigger signing mistake than he already is.
-
You have to lay blame on this FAILED season on Dombrowski...Believe it or not, for ALL the GREAT moves he has made, the one move he did NOT make was the most critical. Going into the season they knew they needed a closer / bull pin help, he did nothing to fix that situation. All Boston had to do was be patient and once the starter left the game, it was free swinging...
IMO - I would keep Peralta next year, he is a professional hitter, they don't have many of those on this roster. They also need to pick up more experienced players like Hunter and replace Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Ramon Santiago. That is how the Wings did it all those years. You need experience and more professional hitters in those backup positions to succeed in the Playoffs.
YOU KEEP JIM LEYLAND, unless you can get Tony La Russa....
I do not know what you do with Fielder, but I do know this, Miggy does not win the Triple crown without Fielder last year. But if the Tigers could get rid of him i'd do it and they should also keep V Martinez as Miggy's protection (another professional hitter)...
You obvious offer the world to Max Scherzer and keep him.....
You also keep Rick Porcello, young arm still developing...
LASTLY PLEASE GET RID OF PHIL "JOKE"...
-
No way man the coke machine just had a off season
-
I agree with most of what you said, except for this one........."YOU KEEP JIM LEYLAND, unless you can get Tony La Russa...."
No way man, the old coot needs to GO and go NOW. How many times have we seen ol' Smokey yank a pitcher that was doing good just so he could go to his 7th inning guy or 8th inning guy, or his lefty / righty match up, or leave in a pitcher that was blowing it. Leyland is WAY too set in his ways with the pitchers, way to faithful to pitch counts and way to stubborn with his line up. What other skipper would keep a guy (Fielder) in the #3 spot when he's batting .100 with zero RBI's in the post season? And what other skipper would basically Waste the talent of someone like Smyly by only using him for 1 batter a game. That's just plain ridiculous.
We are out of the WS and payoffs because of Jim Leyland. The two games we lost (Game 4 and Game 6) where lost because of the results of his inability to manage the pitching staff, the starting pitchers too early in both those games before they needed to be, and he trotted out a parade of pitchers until he found one having an off day and both times it resulted in grand slams. The team played poorly that's for sure, but I put the main part of those two loses on Jimmy boy from the reult of his bad managment of the pitching staff. We've been stuck watching him do the same thing for 8 yrs now and it just does not work.
At one time Leyland was a good manager in his day, but because of his age, stubborness, and inability to evolve with the game, baseball has passed him by and we are stuck with a manager that we will never win a WS with. He needs to retire.
-
Scroll-Down to see repeated video of Fielder's...."Belly Flop"... ::)...attempt to return to 3rd. base. It is Funny!! LOL ;D
Seeing it once when it happened was more than enough ;D lol
-
Live announcement Leyland just retired! It's a good day today lol ;D ;D
-
We can only hope that LaRussa is his replacement.
I understand that LaRussa spent a week with the Tigers in the Spring, do you think this was pre-meditated ?
Whomever takes over should have a stacked line-up next year, they should be walking into a PRIME situation...
-
I understand that LaRussa spent a week with the Tigers in the Spring, do you think this was pre-meditated ?
Probably not pre-meditated because Leyland said he didn't tell Dombrowski till Sept 7th, but they are saying that there are many rumors that LaRussa may in fact be up for the job 8)
-
Sounds like Leland is retiring! Press conference on 97.1
-
Yes, he is Retiring and will not be back for the 2014 Season. The wishes of many people has become true. Now, which person to replace Mr. Leyland is the next step. I am sure he has taken a lot of backlash over his managing and perhaps has had enough. I believe he is tired and ready to resign and to get away from all the negative remarks about him. You can hear the motion in his voice-which you can expect. I wish him well in his retirement and to relax and get away from the reporters etc.
A New Manager-might help the Tigers-but some players I believe must be traded if there is going to be a more stronger team that can go and win the World Series. Some players have to exit the team-and replaced with better, more offensive players-if they are going to be a serious offensive team! We will have to see what 2014 holds and who will be their new manager. 8)
-
Tony La Russa is the best choice to work with the talent that the tigers have.
Max is going to go up on the trading block, as he is worth a lot right now.
Torrie Hunter is going to hang up the cleats, so we will need a right fielder
Prince needs to be traded, he is way over paid for doing nothing but getting bigger in the waistline and the pocket book.
Johnny P is gone
Benot (sp) needs to go.
Bring smiley in as a starter, Porcelia (sp) could become a long term reliever
Alex A needs to get a good back up or become a back up for a better catcher.
The young guy at SS is awesome, the 2nd basemen is good. Austin Jackson is ok but dont put him in the one spot.
So In my eyes we need a couple of out fielders Move Miggie over to first, bring Nick C up and put him at third, vmart stays at dh, and find a real closer.
and for god sakes the new coach I hope he isnt one of those guys that switches picthers after every batter like leyland did.
-
Rich the sad thing is we are stuck with Fielder for the next 8 years unless someone else is stupid enough to pick up the remaining $185m of his contract which I don't see happening. Max is up for more money but I really don't think Dombrowski is going to let him go away. I bet he offers Max the world to keep him after this years season Max had.
And I honestly would not be surprised to see Torii back next year. He's 38 yrs old but that guy is in better shape then most 28yr olds, I think he still has one maybe even two more years in him to be honest.
