I think my new 110 gal I just bought has a leak :-(

I washed it all down and filled it up, this bead of water reforms after a few minutes, I'm praying it's just from water trapped between the frame and the stand from my cleaning but I'm fearing the worst.
The thing is the silicone looks perfect, actually too perfect considering the tank is dated 2001.
Maybe someone redid it and did a poor job? I don't understand.
My plan is to leave it full over night and see if it stops and dries up. I reason if it fails no one will be around to get hurt and it's on the front porch anyways.
I'm totally bumming out.
I have silicone but suck at doing it, I tried once and failed so bad.
Anyone willing to help redo it, I'll pay with beer and $$$

its not to hard to reseal.watch video on you tube. I dis 3 tanks over the summer.
-
I tried a few years ago with the back of a spoon, it turned out so bad. Got it everywhere, was uneven and leaked after, plus getting the old stuff off was a pain. I'm really no good and laying the stripe of silicone.

The trick I learned is to place masking tape on both sides of the seam, and then when you apply the silicone between the pieces of tape, and then wear a rubber glove and smooth it out with your finger dipped in rubbing alcohol. Once you are done just remove the tape and let it sit for 48 hrs

I bought a tube of ge silicone 1 today to fix the trim. Is one tube enough to redo the tank seems?
-
if you are going to re-seal the inside seams, you need to cut out all the old silicone, clean it acetone or rubbing alcohol and then apply the new silicone.
New silicone will not adhere to old silicone and when you do it, do it out side.
With the size of the tank you are talking I would get 2 tubes of GE I to be safe (just for the the inside seams)

If you wanna cart the tank to Westland , I have a guy Who reseals my tanks. His quote for a 110 was $65. But you have to bring itto him & pick it up when finished.
His number is (313) 247-7256

This is your best option, Dan the sealer knows what he is doing.
By the time you take the time and money to try to do it your self "if you have never done it before" it gives you piece of mind to know it was done by a guy who does it all the time.
Super Nice guy, have met him a few times and wouldn't hesitate to have him work on any of my tanks.

I have no truck, my tank was delivered by the guy I bought it from. I guess I'll try to do it myself, I already have everything except the calking gun and gloves.
I better get another tube of silicone too, just to be safe.
When I go to put the trim back on can I lay a thin line of silicone around the lip of the tank or is that way too much? My trim is cracking and I want it really on there good

I'll do it just like Carl!

Carl may be goofy as all hell but he does know his stuff. The seams on that tank look a lot better then some Ive seen people do.

Thanks, I think where I went wrong a few years ago when I botched it was I waited too long to remove the tape
-
You don't HAVE to remove the trim to reseal it.

I have used this trick before. Just use wide tape (painters tape). Feather the silicone towards the edge. I've also used soapy water of my glove. The soap isnt a problem since you will want to rinse the tank out before filling.

My trim is popping up and cracking anyways figured I could patch it and glue it back down tight

pdate.
After work I went and bought the rest of the stuff needed for the re silicone job, extra tube of silicone, razors, tape etc...
Got home and realized I can't move the tank off the stand by my self anyways. While shifting it around I found more water caught in the bottom trim and between the tank and stand, even though the inside of the tank is bone dry from me cleaning it up this morning.
I examined the silicone again and it looks perfect.
So after drying everything up I'm filling it once again but this time making sure not to splash any outside the tank. So far, so good and no sign of any leak. Knock on wood.
Maybe it was just water in the trim from hosing it off.
It's been full for an hour or so now :-)

Good luck!
