Title: Water circulation
Post by: Marvroom on August 11, 2013, 09:49:39 AM
I have read that Lake Tang tanks should have very light water flow in them. I have only a hang on the side filter on my 90 gallon and seems like there are "dead" areas of flow. Should I incorporate a powerhead to get more circulation or would it be too much for Tangs?

You could add a powerhead to it. The do make smaller ones that are not much flow start there and see if they like it.

While not suggesting it's either right or wrong, what is that need based on?

^ The answer to that might help answer the original question.  :)

General rule of thumb for most cichlids is 8x10 gallons per hour of your tank volume. If you have dead spots I would add another filter before adding a power head.
