There used to be a breeders award program I've heard is there a reason it is gone? Could I start something like this on my own just for fun. I've been looking at some of these programs in other clubs I think I could put together something simply and fun and do it myself.
-
It's not "gone" we just need to get the website up to make it easier to participate.
If you like, I can email you a form along with the rules, so you can submit spawns. It would be no problem to do this for anyone else that's interested as well in the meantime.
-
How does this work, do you just submit pictures of what has spawned or do you need to bring it to the meeting(s)
Would it be fish that are only allowed in the auction(so no hybrids or peacocks)?
-
Yes please email the forums. Djlamonica@hot mail.com thanks

I think I submitted some spawns a while back but didn't hear anything and forgot about it.
Also curious like Rich about the process for verification.
-
I'll go into more detail this evening when I have more time.
-
Best way of verification is to bring them to a meeting or to have somebody on the BOD come by.
Only Cichlids count twards points
NO hybrids will be awarded points,

And they have to be your fish correct? not fry you bought from someone or place

And they have to be your fish correct? not fry you bought from someone or place
I would think that since its a breeder program they have to be fish the you breed
If it was a Picture contest then I would say yes any fish
-

Lol Yes they have to have been bred by you.
There's a lot more to it, but Marty will explain all that.

I think he's more curious how you prove that YOU were the one who bred the fish. You could buy a sack of fish from the Oyers and claim them if you don't have to prove you have parents.

I was disapointed when I saw cichlids only I got tetras and danios I want to cash in on...

If somebody is going to be that petty & lie about spawning a fish, then they really need some help. But we verify everything to the best of our abilities.

Sounds like you should join Motor City Aquarium Society too. Many of us, including myself, are members of both clubs.

Sorry Daniel, at this point we don't have any plans to expand into all species for our BAP. I know that both Motor City and Greater Detroit have programs. I also feel your pain. There are a number of rainbows and corydoras that I've spawned that I could've gotten credit for.
Yes, fish have to be bred by you.
The fish can be verified by either having another member sign off on your form or bringing in fry to a meeting to be raffled or auctioned off. If you're a long distance away with no members nearby, you can email me pics of the fry and parents.
Dan Lee - I have the spawns you submitted to me, I just didn't have a time to print out the certificates for you before the meeting so I could present them to you. Do you plan to be at the Sept or Oct meetings?
-
Do convicts count?
I know its a "not so popular" fish, but I did have a pair of marble convicts that have spawned and Another Member has been witness to both parents and fry,and Yes They are MY FISH!!!!!
-
All programs have different rules. Some times the harder the fish is to breed the more points it's worth. Some times all fish are worth the same. Fish breed in the past usually don't count. You usually need to keep a log so dated pictures of parents then the fry and then the fry at 30 days and fry at 60 days then you submit and get points. At certain number of points you'll get an award or some say 100 points breeder level one 200 points breeder level 2. All the way up to master breeder which usually come with a certificate or title or whatever.
Thats the basic idea of a program I have no idea the specifics of the Mca program, should be a link some where with the rules and who is the leader and what they have bred. Not sure where it is I'm sure it is some where around here.

Here's the leader board just found it in the news letter.

Also I've had the wrong email in my profile I've now taken care of that getting the news letter may also be helpful.
Man I'm on a roll.

Thanks for posting these, I didn't realize the old links worked. Saves me a lot of work ;D

Before I was breeding and documented a lot of it via posts and pics over on Cichlid Forum. Would that count?
-
If it was within the last year and meets the other requirements, yes.
-
Do the marble convicts count? I have a breading pair and there are fry. I just want to in the "books" as this is my first time having my own fry ;D

I looked and didn't find the list I am looking for.
So Is there a list of what each fish is worth Point wise?

The fish list link I found did not open.

I have a PDF file. Does anyone have software to convert to Word and I can email it to you, and you can send it back to me in Word?

I have software and can covert it.

do my yellow labs count. :D

I think there is a little more to it then just saying a bred this fiah . you have to keep records and raise them to a certain point. Pictures logs and stuff. Although the rules in a link are kind of vague.

oh ok good to know.
-
Jenna - if you follow the link the djlamonica posted and click the "rules" button on the left side of the page, it will tell you what you need to do to submit spawns.

If you aren't sure of anything or have any questions, go ahead and ask. It's entirely possible that other people may have the same question(s) you do.

What is missing (unless I missed something on there) is basically, what is needed to get a spawn counted. Do you need pictures of parents logs video whatever and who do I send these things to get them confirmed? Or is the only way to get them confirmed is for a board member to come look at them or to bring them to a meeting?
-
Just give me all your fry Dan, I'll take care of it. :P
-
Any other member of the club can sign off as a witness. Most people should be able to look at your fry to determine you have enough of them and that they're over 30 days old.

Since you are the closest member to me,can I have you stop by and verify?
-
So pictures and or video log style wont be accepted?
-
I remember back in the 80s point values were 5 to 25 points. Is that still in effect?
-
Yes. As soon as Josh gets the PDF file converted for me, I'll post the rules and points list. No pressure Josh ;D

Does the Ultra Rare Guppie goldfish Cichlid count? :P
