Please help me in identifying this large male --- in some pics his brood already 2" + surround him

Recently they renamed them Pseudotropheus elegans IIRC.

I had thought so too. But, CRC lists them under the provisional name sp "acei" with a taxonomic history from 1989
The fish pictured under Elegans looks like G.lawsi

Inhabited countries: Malawi (native), Tanzania (native).
Localities: Chemwezi Rocks (Malawi, native), Chimba (Zambia, native), Chimwalani Reef (Malawi, native), Dwangwa (Malawi, native), Luwala Reef (Malawi, native), Msuli Point (Malawi, native), Ngara (Malawi, native), Senga Bay (Malawi, native).
Conservation: Pseudotropheus sp. 'acei' is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species
