Got these little guys from Malawimix today. Looking forward to watching them grow out and tracking it on here.
December 2011
There are 11 and are about 1.25" in size. I'm guessing they are about 8 weeks old at the moment.

Looking good! I hope you keep this updated in similar fashion to your frontosa thread. IMO the best part is watching africans grow up.
What substrate is that? (Particular brand? I know it's sand. :) ) I like the mix of particle size. My PFS is not nearly as varied as your sand is.

Real nice.

Real nice - I thought about picking some of these up after seeing them at Pruess, last winter.

It's Quikrete Play Sand. Bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot...can't remember which.
Thanks for the compliments.

very nice
once I finish my wall project, these are on the list of fish to get

Update? :P
-
I will update soon. They are growing well but I'm in the middle of a move. Just set up a 55 at the new house and tore down both my 6 footers. Oh, plus all the packing and setting up of things I've been doing since I closed on my house on Tuesday. Joy of joys!!!
-
I lost all these guys! :'( My heater failed and the house temp was turned down, so the water got too cold. They were good Monday and today I went to get them and they were gone. Man I'm pissed!
-
Sorry to hear. All the more reason for a fishroom with tank independent heating.
-
wow, that had to be a big let down to walk in and find that!

I really don't want to seem like an idiot here, but by independent heating, you mean heating the "room" right.... ???

NOOOOOOOooooooo!!!!!!

Damn, that sucks! I have what is looking like a young trio....if, and when they spawn I will gladly hook you up with a deal on the fry if you'd like.
-
That is REALLY a huge disappointment. Sorry to hear that.
-
I recently had a heater fail and heat too high and lost my venustus fry I was growing out and my first group of fry from my Labidochromis Gigas. I was really bummed as well. I looked long and hard for the gigas and atleast still have the parents. I know you also can't get your species around every LFS. Good luck on replacing them and don't change your mind get a new group.
-
Sorry to hear about the loss.
-
So, I got a second batch of these from GVSailor. Was super stoked. Guess what? My heater broke AGAIN (this time stuck on) and killed all my juvies (including White Labs, Chewere, and J. Marlieri). How can it be that twice a heater kills my fish? And two days after I get them? I swear I'm cursed with these guys. :'(
-
Must be that group of Williamsi is cursed!!! GVSailor got the breeders from me so all your new ones were bro and sis the the first batch! BUMMER >:(
-
That water had to be all of 98 degrees. I could literally feel it as I reached for the light switch. My wife said they were all fine last night around 10 pm when she fed them. I get home at 8am and WHAM!!!
The worst part is I was reading some forums and people were talking about heater malfunctions. I remember thinking to myself I should get some Fluval M Series to replace my fleet since they're fairly aged. Aaargghhh!!! >:(
I won't give up. I shall try again (when I get some money saved up). Maybe I can find some young adults.
-
That stinks! I only have one more batch.
I sold the the pair to a friend in gvac.
-
I've switched to the aqueon pro heaters ( around 6 months ago) and have no complaints thus far. The temp in my tanks are spot on and everything I've read about them is nothing but good
-
Got another batch of a dozen. Giving them a go again. Fingers crossed. :-\

Good luck!
I have a pair that I am growing to get big enough to put in with the big boys. Dont seem to be growing all to fast though. >:(

Well now you have good heaters hun and that should do the trick. You know third time is a charm! :)

Here they are this morning.

They look awesome I would love to have a few of them
-
What size tank are they in? May be interested in fry in the future too.
-
The juvies are in a 20L. The adults are quarantined in a 40B and will be going into a 55G with my Kawanga Gold Zebras.
-
Ok. Let me know when fry are ready
-
What size is your male in your trio?
-
He's around 3.5" to 4".
