Title: Peacock part 2
Post by: tugboat on June 11, 2013, 02:08:41 PM
Got this guy the other day(breeder mentioned flametop I think), he looks really sharp when he gets colored up. Any thoughts on what type he might be etc.?

Looks like an Otopharnyx lithobates to me.

I thought only the "forehead" and top fin was orange/yellow with them... not the body.  No?

From what i've seen the body gets an orangeish tint when its young, and then fades to the blue

Sorry for the stupid question, but for those of us still trying to learn about the different species...what do you guys mean by "standard"? Standard as opposed too?

A standard is what was once known as a "red top Aristochromis" before it was regrouped as an Otopharnyx lithobates.  The dorsal is like the one pictured.

A yellow blaze is just that, the dorsal is yellow as opposed to orange.

Yep..  Red Top Aristo,  not a Yellow Blaze Lithobates.  Same species, different collection point.

Bruce's Pond Shop had a nice adult when I was in there last.  $40-$60 or something like that.  I think it had been there for a while.
