Ok, whats the deal with taking the fish out of the water to take a picture?
Simply because you cant get a non-blurry picture?
I just find those pictures very non representative of the fish since you never look at them out of the water. I dont go to my fish tanks and pull the fish out to check them out. I look at them IN the water.
I just saw a post somewhere on facebook where the guy took picture of 6+ fish... and they were all out of the water.

Might be a trick. IMO some fish show better color out of the water than in it if they are held in good lighting.
OR maybe the tank looks less than flattering so they want to exclude it from the photo.
Sometimes it also gives reference of scale.
It could also be as you already suggested - just easier to net them and take a picture than to get a picture of them naturally swimming in the tank.
