i was looking at all kinds of cichlids ive never seen before and the pseudotropheus elongatus neon spot and aulonocara kandeense kande island came up. i think they look amazing (according to google images) but i dont know anything about them besides the fact that i think i need some in a tank, in my home. are they hard to find? i havent heard of them previously, let alone seen them. any thoughts?

Aulonocara kandeense are pretty mild manered and typically people suggest a species only tank for them as the males won't color up in a mixed group. This is only from what I've read, I've got a single male growing up right now who will get a chance in my all male tank soon.

I had a Kandeense in an all male set up and he did not color up at all (eventually died). I'd definitely recommend a species tank if you want a nicely colored male.

I haven't done either of those species. But, I've kept several species in those genus.
I'd recommend species tanks of 1M/3-4F & lots of rock work for decor.

I`ve had the Kandeense for many years they are a shy fish that dose not get the size of many other peacocks . These fish are best kept in a species only tank with a high female to male ratio as these fish are not aggresive twords other fish but the males can be brutal on the females. This is a fish rarley kept but is very beautiful.

good to know. they are a beautiful fish for sure but im looking for something that doesnt have to be in a species only tank. maybe i can find something else thats somewhat unique and a bit easier for me. how about the pseudotropheus elongatus neon spot? anyone have experience with those? btw auratus i will be back for some of your acei and chuwere.
