Title: Darn bumblebee bit me!
Post by: four_by_ken on May 08, 2013, 07:27:38 AM
Our bumblebee must not have liked my hand in the tank... it bit me on the wrist.   :o

I have been bit a couple times before, but by much larger fish.  Nibbled all the time by smaller fish when doing maintenance, etc.

But this bumblebee got me pretty good.  Gave me a good laugh since it startled me so much. ;D

Cichlid bites aren't bad when you expect them. I always find myself surprised, jerk my arm as a result, hit something harder on accident than the bite really was, and wonder why I reacted like I did.  ;D

Which is a big problem if you've got glass lids and cut your arm or something.  I started out with cheapo piece of glass lids from Lowe's and got a couple scars while try to catch fish or when startled.  Plastic or nice beveled glass lids for me now.  :)

I have been bit by a 3' Arrowana and a 12"+ Buttakofri.  Those were the best real bites I have had.

This bumblebee just totally caught me off guard and got me right on the soft part of the wrist.

My Arowana got me a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I moved to avoud a full bite but he still drew blood.  I always feed him from above and he nails nightcrawlers when they hit the water so this practice has led to some very challenging water changes/glass cleanings. :)

I second this,  I feed mine thawed frozen shrimp and dangle them in the water and he nails them hard he has caught me once really good, so I drop them in right as hes hitting them now,  it was funny with him splashing all over during dinner.
