Title: Help with ID on a syno?
Post by: linuxrulesusa on April 21, 2013, 11:31:16 PM
I picked up 3 of these tonight at Meijer.  They're selling them for $5-6 right now.

This may be unlikely but a couple posts that popped up while googling indicated it could be Synodontis aterrima: http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=258

E.g. this one.  http://forum.columbusfishclub.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5071

Any better guesses?

Regardless of the species, it's a beautiful little fish IMO.

ive seen a similar pattern on a hybrid, which may be more likely considering it is meijer. either way hybrid or aterrima it looks pretty neat.

It reminds me of a Eupterus juvie.  You'll know if that's the case as it grows.  If it is a Eupterus, they can get 10-12."

Thanks guys.

I posted somewhere else (PlanetCatfish I think) and they all figured it was a eupterus juvie.  If so, that would be sad in that I really like the pattern now and not so much the adult pattern.

But, these are only 1" or maybe a bit more, so I'll let them keep growing out in my 75 with other oddballs and catfish and we'll see what happens.  If they get too big, featherfins/eupterus are not too hard to find homes for.
