Title: HOLY Sore Knee Batman
Post by: RichE on April 18, 2013, 06:49:46 PM
Went for my first post op appt yesterday and the Dr said I have to Keep it 100% straight for 2 more week and then I can bend it 20 deg for 2 week and then see him again.

He told me I can start putting weight on it but dont go crazy. Well I did and it hurts like holy Monkey snot.

He explained that I had 3 grooves in my upper leg bone and 2 in my lower from my knee cap rubbing against it along with bone spurs.

He said most knee's they have to use little square patches like the size of the tip of a tooth pick and under microscope you can see all the squares. Well in the one area he could do that, the other he said it was like patching a pothole.

On top of it he said I have one of the tightest Knee caps he has ever come across and this is a bad thing because upon healing my knee cap will still rub every-time I bend.(just the ligaments that hold my knee cap are that tight, and nothing can really be done as you need them intact to hold the knee cap)

They expect 10-15 years out of this type of procedure (buying time before a full replacement), he said I will be lucky to get 5 and that's being generous .

At least I still have my leg :)

Don't freak out too much about the possibility of knee replacement.  My mom had it done to both knees at the same time.  I thought doing both at the same time was nuts but it turned out real well for her.  Completely changed her life.

My brother-in-law went through what you're going through.  Operations then knee replacement.  He runs around like he's 25 now.  Said he should have done it years ago.  Was painful for awhile, though.

Hang in there, you'll be fine.

I'm like a diesel in the winter might take some warming up but once I get going I run till I'm out of fuel. As for knee replacement I have been told by 3 different drs and the insurance that unless its a trauma ex: getting shot in the knee, they won't do replacements until your over 55

I have to go around and say "suck it up nancy" as I'm allergic to all pain med's so unless I'm in the hospital I can't take any thing. I tell my self every it's just a walk in the park, someone has it worse then me.
