Title: tail fuzz
Post by: techjoe on April 11, 2013, 06:18:40 PM
My wife has some mollies and one of them had its tail nibbled off.  I put him in a floating tank to reduce stress from whoever was doing the nibbling and added some API melafix that seems to work good for fin rips and scraps.  Now its been two days and his tail is covered in a fuzzy cocoon.  How bad is this

Looks like a fungus.  You should get a fungal treatment from your LFS.  Something more specific that the melafix.  I think mardel makes an antifungal.  You could also add some sea salt, 1 tbsp per 5 gal.  Good luck, this can be treatable.
