Title: Good air pumps
Post by: Patrick on March 22, 2013, 12:29:00 PM
The air pump I am using is a Hagen Optima air pump, which is about 20 years old now.  It barely can push enough air to run my fry bubble filter an a large air stone in my 55 gallon (which is about a 5 foot run after the "T".  Any suggestions on a good air pump that has a large capacity but won't break the bank?

Million air 100 11 bucks at pet mountain phase two outlets and adjustable.  Can't be beat.  Seems to push more air then the whisper 100 and half the price.

I have never bought a new one, but I have used various whisper air pumps and I quite like the dual outlet aqua culture models.  They run 3-4W of electrical draw and seem to work quite well on anything from a 10 (usually controlled down a bit via a valve) up to a 55+.  No idea if they are available new.  The only complaint is the plugs where you attach the air lines can get brittle so you have to watch when you are removing/replacing air lines not to snap those connectors off.

I use Whisper 60's and Whisper 100's on some my tanks and are happy with them.
