Title: Like Button
Post by: LoveTheFishies on March 18, 2013, 08:18:35 PM
What about putting a "like button" on the posts and comments?  hummmm, just a thought.

And a dislike button?  You could be more revolutionary than Facebook.  Every day I get on Facebook I wish there was a dislike button.  ;)

We may do something like this.  There are some forum mods available that can do something like this, I'll have to get with Ron in the next month or two to see how easy it is to load up.

we have it over on GLA & there isn't any problems.  Now a dislike button is a different story.

I'm with Stan...I don't like the idea....but some of you know my feelings regarding FB and Twits, etc.  :P

As for what is, or isn't on GLA, I prefer to not make any comparisons between our site.

I'm comparing primarily in terms of 'features' vs. content, FWIW.

On the other hand, +/- buttons (essentially like/dislike), when you have both, can work to 'rate' a post.  If the majority are cool with it, it gets a decent score.  If people feel it is not helpful/relevant, then the less valuable content gets weeded out.  Obviously that can be abused and could be more a headache to moderate, but I think it's a useful concept/feature/tool.

If something along these lines are incorporated into the site, I would highly suggest it be the OP's option to include it such as the case of including a poll in your threads.

I wouldn't expect you to make any comparisons between MCA & GLA,  as you're not registered on both forums. (That I know of)

If a like button was incorporated it is not mandatory that a user/member use it.

Edit- FWIW,  I an neither for or against this suggestion. I would probably use it if it was available.  But, could care less if it's incorporated & IMO there are more important changes to be made with this site first. A homepage being the first.

I dont care either way for the button.

Personally wont use it.  Just something else to click.  I spend too much time on here anyways.

The use of like and dislike buttons is fine for some forums but I thought one of the purposes of this forum was to share ideas, experiences, advice, etc. with other cichlid aquarists.  Rating the comments tends to set up successive defensive and sniping replies and divides people.  There's a pretty good rapport overall on this forum even if we don't all think every post is worthwhile or valuable.  My humble opinion is that there's a greater potential to cause dissention with the incorporation of like and dislike buttons.  I don't really see an upside.

I'm happy with neither button...but if you have 'like' without 'dislike' it seems less helpful IMO.

I'm good with leaving it as is.  Good points.

I would also like to see a homepage, in front of the forums.
