Well I'm having major electrical work done on my house so the power is turned off. I thought I prepared but clearly not enough here is my first lose .
-
Sorry to hear that. Was it a temperature or an oxygen issue do you think?
-
Doubt it was temp room is still warm here's 2 3 4 and probably 5
-
How much longer is it gonna be out for?
-
Not sure all the red head tapajos are now dead severums starting to look rough.
-
No one to barrow a generator from?
Heck, you can rent one at a tool rental store.
Extension cord from a neighbor?
-
All tanks are looking rough. This could be hobby ending all large fish most likely dead tropheus look to be dieing. Fryseem fine probably entire 90 ggone. Not getting better even with huge water changes during. Total fish room crash.
-
Whats causing all the deaths to happen so fast?
-
I am no where near you... but my generator is available.
-
Lack of oxygen I would assume.
-
If lack of O2, it's perhaps resulting from no water disturbance and a protein film building up across the surface of the tank. Just try swishing the surface of the water around every 20-30 minutes.
If you're doing water changes and trying to compensate with warm water, keep in mind that dissolved O2 decreases the water the warmer the water is.
-
Nicest severums dead rigged something up 90 is running.

That's actually why I asked how long it was gonna be out for. I just bought a 1700/2000w Generator 3 weeks ago when my power went out, djlamonica if you would like to borrow it give me a call, I'm in Royal Oak so not all that far away from ya. Just PM me and I will give you my #

Should be back on with in an hour another big severum dead balzani and all loaches dead another big nice male rotkeil dieing
-
That sucks man sorry to hear it. If by chance it takes longer for it to get restored then just PM me, your welcome to pick up my generator.
-
Battery powered "bait" aerators. I used one taking fish to college back in the day. 24 hours between tanks.
-
How are you getting water for the WC's, you might want to just take the hose and let it pour into the tank from a foot above the tank and let it infuse some air into the tanks, at this point I wouldn't be worried about water on the floor, you need to save the fish....
Maybe one hose to take water out and the other to put it in...
Sorry to hear about this...I hope you could save as many as you can ! GOOD LUCK !

Power is back loses still coming in also strange development. Look at this picture this developed at a crazy rate while the power was out.

I know what fish fungus is... but THAT much THAT fast?
-
On MFK it says you can treat with mardel, I have that but it says nothing about treating fungus on the bottle.
-
So how many hours was the power out?
-
Sorry to hear about your loss...
:(
-
Woah!!! I've lost power for days & not had a single fish die.
This is really shitty Dan
-
So how many hours was the power out?
I also wanna know. That seems like a lot of losses for a few hours...
-
Yeah, when my power was out during the major blackout we had in 2003, my power was out for two days and I didn't lose a single fish. All I did was swish the water around every few hours and kept the door to my fishroom closed as much as possible (just because my basement was a little cooler). I suspect something else is to blame here, but it's hard to say what. Here's a couple of things that I can think of that might be part of what the problem was:
Was the water significantly colder that you did water changes with? Could've stressed your fish
Was there a recent water main break? Sometimes they compensate for the break by adding additional chemicals to the water which can kill your fish
Were your tanks overstocked? Too many fish without enough oxygen
Did your tank temps drop significantly? Could've stressed your fish
How recently before the power was shut down did you do water changes? If it has been awhile, perhaps the water conditions worsened faster than usual once the filtration/air was cut off to the tank. Were they large water changes? Perhaps you removed too much beneficial bacteria and had an ammonia spike.

Well again, HELLOOOOOOO have genny will help, whatever though :P
-
His power is back on.
-
I know it's back, just sayin, when I lost my power 3-4 weeks ago, I offered the genny I bought to anyone here, so just bugs me when I see someone talk about no power when I am more then willing to help is all. Because I know how bad it sucks to have no power. I'm happy to help ya know, thats all.
-
So, what is the end results of this power outage?
-
The end results are not in yet fish looked rough this morning at least 10 big fish dead. My tanks are very over stocked but I do not have water quality problems I do lots of large water changes. I didn't think the power being out for that long would have such an impact or I would have made other arrangements. I'm guessing either lack of oxygen or the temp drop was almost 60 in the room before the power came back. I'll give another update when I get home and see what else is gone.
-
Sorry about your losses.
-
Really sorry about your lose. Trust me I know how you feel !

The water temp was 60?

I doubt the water was 60 the room was 60 but im sure it was most likely close and very low.
