Title: Tigers
Post by: Steve on March 11, 2013, 07:07:56 PM
Well this forum is for "off topic" so I'm gonna go way off topic ;D

I'm a HUUUUGE Detroit Tigers fan. Have been for 3 decades now since I was maybe 10 yrs old at games with my grandpa in the 70's/80's at Tigers Stadium. It's only 21 days from today till Opening Day! I just bought my first set of tix a couple hours ago (Tigers vs KC).

Any of you guys big Tigers fans as well?

We are HUGE tiger fans and I have been watching them since the early 80's and even when they were at there worst.

Logan and I watch almost every game if he is not playing baseball that day.

Nothing like a day at the ball park, good times and I cant wait to get down there this year

Rich is Logan your son I meet with you back at the Nov auction?

Yeah man the "worst times" lol. I remember too well the 2003 season. That last game where we were playing to avoid the worst record in MLB my buddy and I were headed up to the Au Sable steelhead fishing that night. We had to pull over right before the Bay City Bridge because we were losing AM radio reception. Listened to the end of that game like it was a World Series game lol. Thank God we have a better team these days.

Went to the final game of the year.  Unfortunately it was when they lost the series.  It was still great.

Steve Yes thats Logan he comes to all the events with me. He and his 2 brothers play baseball and its the best thing in the world. To see logan,Hunter and zach go out there and play and tell us how they made a play just like one of the major league guys is priceless.

The 2 younger ones dont really get into watching it as much as logan but they all love going to the game and spending dads money on hot dogs and peanuts.

Baseball season is in the air:)

My father has been gone for many years, but when i think back to the mid-60's, sitting with him in tiger stadium  as a young boy, watching Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Bill Freehan, Willie Horton, and many other favorites,  I can remember it like it was yesterday and a smile creeps across my face.

My Dad has been gone for many years as well and like you some of my fondest memories are of watching a game together, thanks for sharing your memory with us...:)

My Father has passed as well and I do remember spending allot of time watching games with him at home and at Tiger Stadium. I have a Picture of the 68 world series Tigers team picture hanging in my office that my dad gave me.

We should do a Club game this year even if we sit in the cheap seats.

My dad was never the sports type and we never went to a baseball game, this is why I'm making memories with my son's and daughter . I want them to talk about this kind of stuff one day.

We should do a "Field Trip" as a group !  I am a avid TIGERS fan.

There is nothing better than going to a game and getting a Ball Park dog with a Pepsi with the celphane covered tops.

I wish Tigers Stadium was still around.  Best ball bark ever.  I miss the ambiance of that Ball Park..

I used to love Tiger Stadium.  I grew up going to games there.  Hated to see it abandoned for a new stadium...

That was all until I went to Comerica Park!!!!   Hands down a better place to watch a game.  From the facilities to the view to... much better.

Hang Gang
I am a big fan of baseball but mostly the Tigers and the Brooklyn Dodgers
I have been a fan since the days of Jake Wood, Fred Gladding and my all time favorite Stormin Norman Cash
Besides keeping busy with life and fish I am finishing a project of getting an autograph of each member of the 1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984 Tigers (down to the last ten)
My Bride ( the amazing Ms. T) suprised Tink and me with tickets last year 4 rows behind home plate right next to where the umps come out. At the end of the game I asked Blue (the home plate ump) if he had a game ball left. He did and he gave it to Tink.
What a day!!!!
Still miss Ernie (what a great guy) but doesn't it feel about 20 degrees warmer when you can hear the Tigers on the radio

Rob

You are really showing your knowledge of baseball with the "hey blue" comment

On the kids little league we never say ump,its always hey "blue" :) and most people are like who are you calling blue when no one on the field is wearing blue LOL

I just love the game and all it's history
I had a chance to meet and become friends with Buck Oneal of the KC Monarchs a few years before he died
In fact 2 weeks before he passed we were two weeks out from Tink being born. He promised me that if Tink would have been born a boy we would nick name the baby Buck after him. We said we would and he smiled.
I think Tricia agreed as she knew we were going to have a girl.
It is sad in a great sports town like the D most "fans" only know it from 2006
I also think people are missing out when they ask if NY at one time did have 3 pro teams, if there really were the negro leagues. There was a time when there was no DH and the world series was played during the day so we had to rush home to watch it (unless a teacher brought in a TV (black and white). and there were only one game a week on tv but we had Ernie and George and Ray and Paul coming out of a little plastic box hidden under our pillow

I've went to games there many times and found myself behind those huge beams that blocked my view. Miss that park though, had that old time feel to it.

Just saw they released Boesch today. I think that was a good call. Although he did get on a hitting streak here and there, overall I just never thought he was a good well rounded player. Seemed like a good kid though and hopefully someone picks him up and does good for them. I like the thought of Dirks getting full time play now, he's a much better player for us out there 8)

One thing Boesch did have I believe over some of the other fill in guys we have on the roster was damn good speed, especially for a big guy... He will find a place in the Big Leagues no doubt...
