Reality just set in for me pretty much on this I am buying a house and was given the green light to set up a 19x14 fish room... upstairs.
here is the room pics.

It looks small in the pics but it is a lot bigger just under 2000 sqft and I am not going to complain because we got it for a lot less than what we were expecting. I am pretty excited for this I am open to any ideas.

Looks like a really nice place.
Personally, I would rethink a second floor fishroom, excepting if you just planned on having a nice little 10g up there. ;)
A concrete floor in a basement or first floor, would be ideal for multiple tanks.
Just my thoughts anyway.
-
Its actually 3 floors and this room in ground floor. 4 if you count the basement. We have other plans for the basement I guess.
-
I would have claimed the basement for 'Fishlandia'. LOL
I have seen some pretty extensive damage from water, and weight is a whole other thing to consider. Every now and then I will have a little nightmare/daydream about a busted tank, or a tank that tips over, or the floorboards caving in. shudder :o
In my house, where I do have a few tanks, I am on a crawl space, and have added jacks to provide some extra support, and peace of mind.
-
Very Nice house, someone has spend a whole lot of time re-doing the inside. Congrats on your new Purchase...
-
Congrats!
I'll echo the sentiment about weight perhaps being an issue on the second floor depending on how many tanks you're thinking. When looking at how much weight it might be able to hold, keep in mind that static weight ratings are typically lower than live weight ratings.
-
Tanks are going on the first floor it has a partial basment but its nicer than the room I was told I cau use I guess. I'm just a little nervous since it is a tile floor
-
I have cracked tile with a 55g, and a metal stand. Had to put a piece of metal under the stand, to spread out the weight evenly. Wood is too soft.

I wonder if those furniter coasters (the nicer metal ones with carpeted bottom) would work well? I've got those under my pair of 40 breeders on top of the faux wood floor (which is on top of the concrete slab in the basement) and it seems to be working well. The rest of my tanks are directly on concrete/old asbestos tile that is already cracked/cracking and doesn't matter too much. :)

Congrats!

Well there is extra tile in the garage so I might as well try to break some right? If I lay some plywood or some crap over it so weight is spread out evenly I should be alright.

Nice house and 1st floor fish room, way cool!

With a fire place.

With a fire place.
Definitely cool, but if you plan to use it for more than ambiance, look into putting an insert in it, otherwise it's more of a pump to draw heat out of a house rather than put it in.
-
Congrats man, very nice looking you can tell someone put some work into it recently 8)

Yeah the dude bought it and flipped it he got it for 0000. It was on the market under 24 hours. Its gas fire place with a insert.

Looks like a nice place. Congrats!

Am I the only one that thinks the below each time a notification for this post shows up....
Ladies and gentlemen please
Would you bring your attention to me?
For a feast for your eyes to see
An explosion of catastrophe
Like nothing you've ever seen before
Watch closely as I open this door
Your jaws will be on the floor
After this you'll be begging for more
Welcome to the show
Please come inside
Ladies and gentlemen
Boom
Do you want it?
Boom
Do you need it?
Boom
Let me hear it
Ladies and gentlemen
Boom!

With that out of the way... 8)
Looks like a nice room is on its way!
Maybe I misread... is there a basement directly under this room, or a slab?
-
Slab it was an add on to the house the basement is under the living room.

Nope! But the first lyrics that play in my head are from the second half:
...
Ladies and gentlemen good evening
You've seen that seeing is believing
Your ears and your eyes will be bleeding
Please check to see if you're still breathing
Hold tight cause the show it not over
If you will please move in closer
Your about to be bowled over
By the wonders you're about to behold here

I just copied and pasted the first lyrics I Googled.
