He seems to have a darn good reputation and for the price point I don't think I could go wrong. I was able to talk to him on the phone too. Very nice guy and willing to answer any question to best of his ability.

:) subbing along, since I've decided that Discus will be my next obsession.
-
Please update us with some pictures once acclimated. If/when I get back to discus breeding I would like to explore my choices other than some big ones from Hans and Rocky Mountain.

I surely will. Hans and Rocky Mountain were both my next choice. It just happen to work out with Kenny. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Also check out Mike Beals, Central Ohio Discus. Very nice stock and may be able to save on shipping costs due to his being in Ohio.
BTW....Kenny is in CA, he imports stock from Forrest in Malaysia, Mike Beals imports from Jeffry Yang. Forrest & Jeffry Yang do some kind of work together in Malaysia.

Fish arrived at 10am this morning. Everything went pretty good but the one of them was DOA. I wasnt upset though. They were all bagged individually so there was no contamination of the other fish. All in all I was very pleased with the way they were packaged. The dead one doesn't bother me because ive been doing this long enough to know some fish just don't handle the stress very well....And the fedex guy pulled the box out on its side instead of right side up. (it has a big arrow pointing up and says live stock on each side too....what a tool). The others are in the tank and moving around nicely though. No major gasping or anything. It's only been a few hours and their color has already shine up a bit. Ill post some pictures tomorrow after they are a bit more comfortable.....The Pigeon Checkerboard look amazing.
BTW. Kenny has already refunded the money and was very cool and apologized over and over again about the dead fish. He said he would hook me up on the next order as well.

Here they are! Well.....Three of them. The others wont come out from the behind the rock :P They are all doing fine and I plan on feeding them tomorrow. As for now they were swimming around the tank and I wanted to show them to you guys.
Left to right....Flamingo Throwback, Pigeon Checkerboard, Blue Diamond

Very nice. I've always thought Discus are just such a pretty and graceful fish. Too bad about the doa but like you said it happens sometimes. To be honest I'm surprised ANY fish lives through shipping though because I worked for UPS for 6 years loading the trucks so I know first hand how the packages are handled, and it ain't pretty most the time lol. That Pigeon Checkerboard is a beauty.
-
They look great! No peppering and the checkerboard is real nice!
-
Very nice Nick. Keep s us updated how the progress with them.
-
Thanks everyone. I'm very happy with them. Ill post some pics and maybe a video of them eating later in the weekend after they are more comfortable.
-
Very nice! Sorry you lost one...that's too bad. Looking forward to seeing your updates on them.
I really like your blue diamond. That's a strain I'd like to add to my tank.
-
Your new Discus are gorgeous! :D Always wanted to try some, but was afraid of the maintenance.
-
Just tried giving them frozen beef heart instead of blood worms....they took a bite, spit it out and then proceeded to the corner where I assume the cussed me out. :P
-
Lol. Sounds like when trying to get a little kid to eat their peas.
Mine don't like beef heart either. However they will chow down on beef heart flakes.

I'm going to switch back to blood worms till Sunday and then try switching them....or should i say forcing them.
-
In my limited experience the brats won't eat anything else once they acquire a taste for bloodworms.
You must be strong...ignore them when they try to stare you down...they are out to win. Here's to Sunday. Lol.
FWIW...mine ate nothing for a solid week. They tried to outlast me. Now they're indiscriminate eating machines. Except for beefheart. Garlic juice helped.
