Title: Filter options

Does anybody here use any of the bio ball material for bio filtration?  I am wondering if the bio wheels on my Marineland 350 filter are adequate for a 55 gallon.

I use pond filter material in my filters, it is 2" thick and very porous.  Best of all it is sold in linear feet for $15.  Just cut it with a razor blade knife and make a bunch of filter material for your HOBs.

You could also just add a sponge filter.

I use matrix for my bio but there is all kinds of. Materials for bio media. For the high cost of bio balls I would not buy them when there is so many cheeper options. I'm not sure about the filter you have but if it is possible just get a media bag fill it with some matrix and put it in the filter befor the wheel if possible. Id thank the combination would be enough. But I have don't. Know if this would be possible with your filter. Foam filter is great bio just takes some time to seed butlooks out of place in most display tanks. Also can make a quick internal fluidized bed filter.  If you care about that option send me a message and I will tell you how I do it.  Pot scrubbers from the dollar store is a grea bioedia. I use.  Them in one of wet/dry sumps does well.
