Title: Do you have Salt water aquarium?
Post by: theoryguru on February 25, 2013, 11:20:42 PM
Just wondering how many members also have a salt water setup?

I've only had freshwater tanks, although like any hobbyist I appreciate the effort people invest into planted and salt water tanks.
I certain a marine setup is in my distant future.

I have a 30 gallon cube reef setup.  I have had this setup for 3 months.  It has a 20 gallon acrylic sump and a cpr hang on the back refugium.  The lights are led and t5 for now.  I want to change them to all t5.   I like this tank size it fits into a corner of a room nicely.

I had a saltwater tank, but it was just too much money in my opinion.  Thats what actually burnt us out on fish for 10 years.

I doubt I will ever have one again since prices are even higher now on fish and corals.

I wouldnt say prices are higer. I usually always have frags of coral from 5 to 25 bucks. I have a couple nice clams too for 75.

Fish are for sure... almost double what I used to pay.

Yeah that is a big thing to do with getting them shipped and how they are catching them now. Plus all the embargoes they have in place for fish and corals causes the price to jump up.

Nice cube.  I've seen more and more of these 'micro' tanks around; you're still able to get the vibrant colours at a fraction of the cost of larger setups.

With exception to the equipment, I'm unfamiliar with market price for marine fish.  There are quite of few local ppl here in my area propagating their own coral/frags.

I have spent less money on my saltwater tank, then if i bought a colony of Tropheus or Frontosas.  To be honest my tank has cost me nothing but time and electricity so far.  I will be spending money on it soon because I want a new light and new fish.:)

What do you have in the tank so far?

This tank came to me in a awesome trade.  I have only one yellow damsel as I trade the other existing fish for frags.  I have green stripped mushrooms, red mushrooms, purple mushrooms, neon green trumphet, a leather, nuclear green palyies, cool looking zoas, waving zenia and starfish.  All of my corals are frags from friends tanks.  I have been trying to decide what kind of fish, I want for this setup.  There is a list of other corals I want but they will have to wait.
