Title: Omega One Super Veggie flakes - alternative?
Post by: four_by_ken on February 25, 2013, 07:43:18 AM
I have been feeding Omega One Super Veggie flakes to everything.  I am just about out and need to get more.

Any other brand that you are happy with that I should try out instead?  (for flakes, I also feed some NLS also)

I use whatever F.Fins sells in their bulk bags. My Acei,  M'Bamba &White Labs love it.

I really wish that store was closer.

Thanks for the offer.  I think I may use this as an excuse to visit the store again.  I want to take my brother there too.

Any good-quality bulk flake will be fine.  Fins has a good bulk flake, and Wet Thumb Aquatics in New Baltimore also sells a good quality bulk mixed flake for a reasonable price.  I think they ship, too.  As long as the temptation to over-feed is kept in check, most fish are very forgiving with respect to diet.  There are exceptions like Tropheus, of course.

Yes Wet Thumb's foods are great. I get the majority of my pellets & brine flake from them.

I think I will try to stop in at Wet Thumb since they are somewhat local to me.  Maybe tomorrow on the way home.

I'm 'bloat phobic' so I only use NLS, although I feed my other fish Hikari pellets.
I have Ocean Nutrition in my cabinet but haven't used it yet.. I'd like to try Dainichi and Repashy's soilent green.
As for bulk, my cichlids enjoy the giant sack of spirulina flakes I bought from Marty [which is the only other food I've given them besides NLS without consequence].

Wet Thumb - They sell several varieties of bulk flakes.   Little known fact - Belle Isle Aquarium buys ALL thier food from Wet Thumb.  I paid $7 for a small container of flakes.  This container is 4 times the size of the small NLS container at the same price....The lady said you can freeze the flakes and they will last over a year.  They also sell pellets....

I understand about buying locally ,(Wet thumb is far from me)      but they order there food just like I can.     I have a lot of fish and can save a lot by buying on line I have given local stores a chance to match prices and they dont .   The internet wont go away.  I always prefer small local buisiness for all services and by from independent buisinesses when ever possible way betterservice with a personal touch

Never thought about freezing.  Its all dried, how will it go bad?

I ended up getting flakes from Marty.  Fish love it!  Excellent price also.
