Title: Bathroom Shrimp & Betta Nano Tanks
Post by: scifisarah on February 24, 2013, 07:22:43 PM
Finished up our bathroom nano tanks! I think it all turned out quite nicely without me driving my husband too crazy with my OCD. The 2.5 on the left has about 20 cherry red shrimp, 2 nerite snails and "Tiny" the Scarlet Badis. I learned how to hatch bbs yesterday and he was all over those! "Monet" the betta is in the tank on the right. I still need to get black backgrounds for them the next time I am at Petco. I really like the look of the moonlight setting on the tanks at night.

Lighting: Finnex Fugeray 10"
Filters: Azoo Mignon 60 (w/ fluval edge biomax & foam)
Heaters: Fluval edge 25w
Substrate: Caribsea crystal river
Stands: Oak base & casing w/ Minwax "Riverstone" stain & gloss polyacrylic

Cool.  But I was disappointed to see 'bathroom shrimp' were not a new species.

Just showed your pix to my wife as we are planning a bathroom remodel.  From the looks of it, I must curb my fish OCD as far as the bathroom is concerned.

Your tanks look great.

My wife would flush ME, if I even mentioned, putting a tank in any of the bathrooms.

I do really like the wood tank base and covers. Are those DIY?

The tanks look great. Water changing must be a breeze with them so close to the sink!

Yes, no trouble at all. I just use a section of hose about 3' long and put it right into the sink. I think I need to buy some smaller hose though because it sucks out almost all the water before I can blink. Those shrimps had better hide!  ;D

The stand is DIY - I picked out the wood, planned it and did the finishing work, and my husband did all the cutting on the nice Hitachi miter saw he got last Father's Day, and got the base and canopy together and square for me.

They both look great Sarah, Maybe you and your husband can show your tank stands at the DYI club meeting?

We probably won't be able to make it to the meetings since you guys are so far away, but otherwise I would. I ended up just leaving the shrimp tank moonlight on at night. Monet my betta sees his reflection in the glass with just the moonlight on and would likely flare all night and exhaust himself instead of getting sleep. Bettas are such silly fish but I love em.  ;D
