I "might" be going to Florida next month for spring break and i was wondering where i would go fishing to catch cichlids there just for a fun thing to do for activity while i am there.. ??? Anyone know?

Not sure where exactly you're considering going fishing in Florida for cichlids but I believe it's illegal to fish in the Everglades. I've been there and seen several SA cichlids in shallow streams. Perhaps, you could identify streams that are clearly outside the actual Everglades property in which to fish. I'm going to suggest you also check in with Florida fishing requirements so you've got the proper information and permit. There are also many native freshwater livebearers and killifish you could catch there, as well as cichlids IF you go. Hope you make it!

Most cichlids are found in the canals of Dade County, S. Florida and in the area around and including the Everglades N.P., however any small pond, permanent ditch, lake, stream, swamp, or river in the state will yield some neat and colorful fishes. If you have a mask, fins, and snorkel, take them and use them.
Obtain an temporary out-of-state fishing license and be aware of of alligators and water moccasins.
If you stop at the Ranger center at E.N.P. and ask to catch exotics, you may receive permission to do so. Do not keep any natives caught within in the park boudaries; the Rangers will check.
An 8-foot seine net and strong dipnet will be all you need to collect; insect repellent is useful, but don't get any in your collecting bucket, and take a cooler or styro with a battery-operated pump. A field guide to N.A. fish is worth having.
