Will hang on back filters really cause my electric bill to go up 120 bucks in a month or is something more going on with my house. I run sponges in a 10 gallon and one in my 55 with a cascade 300 and on a 30 I have a emperor 400 all 3 tanks are at 75 degrees. The hobs are the only thing I can think of causing it unless it the dehumidifer or the woman leaving every light on again

Heaters and old style flourescent lights is what affected mine the most. Heaters especially in the colder months.

My basment stays around 70 so the heaters do minimal work lights and on 4 hrs a day

Not sure where you're at as far as which utilities company you'd use. But DTE will let you do an "Analyze my bill" to break down what each approximate charge is for. In my case, last month was around $35 for the 'other' category which should be computer, TV, and powering the fish tank stuff. I'm running 4x Whisper 60s and 3x AC110s, plus 2x 250W Aqueon Pros, 3 200W Aqueon Pros, a 150W some other brand, and 4-5 50 or 75W heaters. So I would think mine would be much higher than yours, if it was the fish equipment causing the jump.
For example, an AC110 will use 13W max * 24 hours/day * 30 days ina month = ~10kw/month. Which in my case was around 1-1.5% of my bill.
Even leaving every light on would be iffy for that big a jump, IMO. I had around $20 for lighting which would include everything in the house. But I am running all T8s except one 24" fixture.
There is also hot water factored into the electric bill if you have an electric hot water heater, so if you're doing a ton of water changes that could impact, but even so, $120 seems high. I'd call and see if they misread your meter. They did that to me over the summer and overcharged $150.

I have a 180 also but I run a sponge on a powerhead and a mag 12 in the wetdry also 1 300 watt heater but that's been running for a while when the bill was only like 130 bucks a month last month is was 250 and this month 280 so either they are messing up or something has to go. I have a lineral air pump here at the store I could get for 100 bucks but then ill need more sponges and its only 15 watts . I also have dte i will have to look into this more I guess

Find the power usage on the equipment (should be on the box or manufacture website) then multiple by 24 then you'll have KW...cost per KW in the Detroit area is around 15 cents/KWH. So my AC110 example would be 14W * 24 hrs * 30 days = 10KW @ 0.15/KW = $1.5/month per AC110 to run it.

Oh yeah I did that a long time ago before I set up the 180 it came out to be like 24 bucks a month on that tank. But to go up from what we were paying 130 to 160 a month to 280 a month is insane. We have consumers now not dte so me and mr consumers will be talking later. They messed up our bill at the store too over charged us by 876.58.
