Post by: African cichlid Keeper on January 08, 2013, 01:09:34 PM
i got this male peacock as a yellow peacock but he doesn't look like one..

Is he a Aulonocara Rubescens or Aulonocara German Red?

Could very well be a hybrid of a yellow and a rubescens

Line breeding and hybrids are two different things.

And FWIW, I don't have a problem with line breeding so long as the result is kept separate from the original.  ;)

Not to be a jerk but just because you got it from a breeder doesn't mean it has to be pure. Anyone can say to be a breeder I've been keeping and breeding cichlids for 9 years. I know a breeder who will sell hybrid fish. The only difference with him is he is honest about it and will tell you its a hybrid before you buy it.

If you were told it was one thing and it looks like something else, I couldn't feel 100% confident about calling it anything other than a hybrid/unknown. I would have to agree that it looks like a German Red, but at this point no one really knows. He should be a looker when he fully colors up though... :D
