Title: Intro for new fish - what's your method?
Post by: theoryguru on January 05, 2013, 11:54:32 AM
Hi,

I'd like to know what method(s) ppl use to introduce new fish to their tanks
- quarantine (qt) period, feeding, tank setup, etc.

In the past I only qtd fish for a week or 2, considering factors like where the new fish came from,
physical health so on.. so on.  I've since extended my qt period to 3-4wks after learning more about disease and
since most of my new fish are moving into a lrg display tank.

I use a quarantine tank and quarantine the fish for three to four weeks doing weekly water changes and treating the tank with paraguard.  I usually don't start feeding them until the second or third day in the tank.  But as you mentioned I also consider the source.

I also QT for 4 weeks as long as the fish look, act and eat perfectly normal from day one.  This is a lesson I learned the hard way.
