Title: Planted Tank Substrate Sale.
Post by: Nick on January 03, 2013, 08:07:45 PM
I was looking around online to find a good deal on some type of substrate and I came across PetSmart with a sale on CaribSea FloraMax. $6.35 for 15lbs and $7.62 for 12lbs. Normal price is $20. Seemed like a darn good deal to me. One catch. The price is online and my local store had it listed at 12.99. They honored the price displayed online though. Just make sure you have it pulled up on your phone first.

Why is the bigger bag cheaper than the smaller bag?

The smaller size is called "midnight"

Anyways has anyone used this stuff, would be ok in a catfish/pleco tank?

I'd go another route. This stuff is pretty rough,  almost like tiny lava rocks.

I would have to agree as of now with Blair. Its pretty rough. I'm setting up a planted tank and have not yet decided if I'm going to leave it with just the floramax or add small gravel on top.

Rich,

Look into the EcoComplete Planted Aquarium Substrate. (I think that's what it's called.)
