Post by: Rob S on September 29, 2011, 09:02:14 PM
Pics of my 300, just added some new 50/50 lights. Really looking forward to auction season to add some more color. Need some reds. oranges, OB's.  I've been away from Africans for about 5 years, excited about stocking this tank up.
So far I've got a Phenocilus, 2 Red Empress, 8 E. Yellows, 3 Albino Lemon Jakes, 1 Lawanda Peacock &  1 Strawberry Peackock young males, trio of E. Blue Johanni, Quad of Ps. Daktari, Male Rostratus, Male Lithobates

Looks great Rob! The 50/50 sure gives the tank a nice look. Among all the fish that phenochilus really steals the show right now.

How big is the rostratus? Any color on him yet?

Thanks Ron! Yeah, I'm really please at how the lights turned out. The Rostratus has some color, he's about 6 inches. When he's eating or chasing someone he colors up pretty good but he's got a ways to go yet.  The Pheno came from a buddy of mine that does commercial tanks. He's got a bad eye but otherwise a show stopper, the former owner didn't like him anymore because of the damaged eye. His loss.

Looking good Rob!!! I am up north for the long weekend and will catch up with you next week.
You can come look at everything and decide what you want then.

Nice set up. That is going to be one fun tank to sit and watch as you continue to fill it with fish.  I wish I had room for a 300 gallon tank.

Yes indeed very nice.  That Pheno will be even better in about another year I bet.  I have one thats probably not even 4" yet and he's fully speckled.  When I first saw a pheno I was new to the hobby and didn't know what they were.   I assumed it was a hybrid and reminded me of Koi.  I really thought it was ugly.   Then I found out what they were and that it is a natural occuring malawi and it soon became one of my favorites.

Funny on how limited knowledge and perspective can sway an opinion.  The fish is the same but my ignorance made me despise them.
