Another question, I saw this product discussed on trophs.com but no one seemed to really say if it worked.I have recently returned to the hobby after about 15 or so years off so I don't know about some this stuff. Or are the good old weekly water changes with good regularly cleaned filters with proper media still all that is needed? Thanks Bob

IMHO no product will ever replace the old standards of proper tank maintenance.
In an emergency I am sure many of the products out there will work, at least to some extent.
As for this specific product I cannot say one way or another.

I know what you mean Bob, Ive been out of the hobby for a the long time too. I cant believe all the new products out there, But most impotant it seems like most of the fish I like have different names. So I guess its back to school cichlids 101 for us. But were kind of lucky, we didnt have the internet or forums like this. It wont take long to get back in the swing of things.

Purigen really helps with polishing your water. For example if you have driftwood that's incessantly leaching tannins or a newer tank bacterial bloom.
However there are no shortcuts if proper maintenance isn't followed. Water changes and filter maintenance are primary and most effective.
Enjoy your return to the hobby!

Thanks for all the replies. Its all my sons fault (getting back in the hobby) he had slowly been taking a lot of my tanks and kept talking about his fish. I would give him advise from time to time but because he lives 6 hours away i had not seen the tanks. Well one day he called and said he was having problem with Ick, I said you need some of that green stuff and make sure proper water conditions and so on. Then I made the mistake of getting on the internet and seeing the availablity of fish I had only dreamed of having years ago. My wife went by me looking at the fish on the computor and said Bob its not good for you to be looking at those. I replied that maybe I would just set up one tank so I could buy a few fish my son couldn't get in Ohio. It has been one year 4-75's 2-50's 3-125's and 2-15 gallon tanks ago. Those are all new but what scares me is that I have some old tanks yet 3-33 longs 3-55's a 44 pentagon and several 10 gallons not set up.------ Guess my wife was right. Thanks again,Bob
