So, in less than a week's time Rommel has gotten into trouble big time!!!
My buddy Bob and I went up north last week to tear down a fish tank that we set up every spring in the office of a Lake Huron resort owned by another friend of mine.
When we go up north Bob's parents, who live across the street from me, take care of my dogs.
Well, Grizzly and even Hunter were easy....Rommel, not so much >:(
He likes to get into things, I believe out of spite sometimes.
I had mentioned to Bob's dad that he had to make sure the ceramic jar that the Milkbones are kept in is out of Rommel's reach.
We get home last Thursday and the jar had been broken and Rommel ate a whole box of dog treats...he also must have eaten some of the ceramic shards because he had blood in his stool. That's all cleared up now....and so was my wallet.
This evening I had to run out for about an hour and was in a hurry to get back to watch the Tigers.
Big mistake, being in a hurry!!! I inadvertently left an almost full bag of cashews on the dining room table....I thought out of Rommel's reach.....nope!!!!
So I call the vet and they say that's not good....the high fat content is really bad for dogs and can possibly lead to short term pancreas issues. So now I'll be up all night keeping an eye on him for signs of distress....hopefully it will pass (pun intended). I'm feeding him some white rice with skim milk...both fat free...to help get things moving (again, pun intended).
I am hoping my wallet does not get substantially lighter again this week.
I guess I got very spoiled with Grizzly being such a well behaved dog...and Hunter too for that matter.
I will just have to be more diligent with Rommel and make sure there is nothing for him to get into when I leave.

Best wishes that Rommel is OK after the cashews pass!
I let my dog roam the house while I'm home, including overnight, but when I'm away she's got a huge crate to make sure she doesn't accidently make a mistake.
-
The only time I've ever used a crate was when there was no choice...destructive behavior. If it's just things that are in my control, like making sure I don't leave cashews in reach, I prefer letting my animals roam.
Mainly due to my preferences, but I've always thought having a dog help guard my house while I'm gone is drastically hampered if said dog is in a crate.
I actually had a crate for Grizzly when I first rescued him, but I never needed it because he was such a well behaved boy.

Ow, that's unfortunate. I hope he feels better. My dog always used to get into bags of candy my brother left out in his room. He never once ate my stuff though. He knew better. :P

I'm gonna side with Rommel on this one. Food left in his reach is fair game. :P No way my dogs would have left it be.
I'm sure he'll be okay.

Lol, sounds like Jax
Hope every comes out OK. Maybe the soupy rice pudding will deter him from other mischief
