Title: Moving a pair to a new tank
Post by: JClem on October 07, 2012, 02:29:26 PM
I have a pair of Salvini that have paired up and spawned a couple times in my community tank. The first time they ate the eggs, this time, they laid just before I had to do a major tank overhaul and so they abandoned the eggs and they got eaten. I am moving them into their own tank in hopes that I can get fry. Is there anything I need to know before moving them? I assume they'll remain paired up, but will moving them cause them to get territorial with each other?

It could mean trouble, make sure your female has a safe haven. If it was me, I`d use a divider until the are ready to spawn again. I`ve had males turn on their mates because of a lost spawn so I like to use caution.

I'd add the female first,  give her some time to fully explore the tank&  give her somewhere to hide. Then add the male.

Thanks for the tips- I'm going to try moving them in the next week or so- right now I'm using their soon to be new tank to nurse my green terror back to health after a run in with a fire mouth.
