I think Marty will be on board with the MCA host club IF YOU volunteer to be the convention chairperson and are responsible for making all the arrangements and getting volunteers lined up. :P
-
I really think if MCA& MCAS joined forces this could happen.
The problem would be keeping it out of the "Canadian Providence of Marty " :P
-
I thing you can do it Blair go for it
-
I'll help, but btween my job& the kids I don't think I could put the bid together.
-
Oh no, Mr. Instigator, I saw you throw me under the bus with the facebook post - "passed along to local Presidents Vic Bondi and Marty Derenge" If I do this, you'd better be prepared to take some time off of work that week.......
Before I would even think of committing to this, I would want to see AT LEAST 25 volunteers to help with setup and working the convention. Feel free to sign up directly below:

I'm prepared

If you haven't yet, take a look at the convention guidelines, the link is posted on the ACA forum under the convention tab. http://www.cichlid.org/index.php?pageid=aca_convention_guidelines This will give you an idea of the positions that need to be filled. In addition you will need a bunch of bodies for setting up the show and taking in down. MCA hosted the 1999 convention which I chaired, so while I can't provide boots on the ground for you all, I can certainly help with the organization. I think Detroit would be a great place and should have a good draw as most attendees can drive to it, excluding the west coast group, but they are used to flying.
Joining up and combining resources with another club is a great idea as long as there is a clear understanding of how the work and the income will be shared.

I would be up for helping where needed.

As MCA VP I feel it's my duty and obligation to volunteer... ;D
And as Phil B knows, I am quite capable of filling all the show tanks by myself...even with one arm in a cast at the time ;)
-
Ahh yes Tony, but that was a much younger man. This time around I think we should let you use both arms, so no more casts!! :) :)

OK, I've been patiently waiting for more responses& I must say I'm pretty disappointed.
Out of 281 registered people only 4 have said they'll help.
Is it the time frame? Should we try a later year?
Are you too busy? Did you know that I have a full time job, 3kids of my own, a stepdaughter, 3 "baby mommas " & about 1,700gallons of tank maintenance a week? I'm busy too.
This is something that will help generate some cash in your local fish club(s) . The clubs that hold auctions for you to get your prized fish. The clubs that don't charge for admission to said auctions. The clubs that bring in big name speakers for you to share their expertise. The clubs that are actually free to join( this year)
Or is it that you believe in the whole 2012 Mayan predictions? In that case put your name down anyways... We'll all be dead. ;)

I would love to help. That's a ways into the future and that leaves a lot to happen in the mean time, but sign me up!

Blair - that link in your original post on this topic no longer works? Did they find someone perhaps, or did they already decide to cancel it for 2013?
I haven't volunteered because the location, times, and date are unknown. I'd hate to commit to something, then not be able to actually make it. I suspect I would be able to assist at least on a partial basis.
I also have some slight concern that if putting on an event is really rushed, it might not turn out as good as it could have, and I'd prefer to see "MI" do a fantastic job if one, or a few, of the clubs here do decide to host the event in the future.

You kind of just sign yourself up...

I would be willing to offer my time where ever need, I cant do any heavy lifting or standing for long periods of time but I can talk someone ear off
-
I'm in. All clubs is a good idea.
-
I wish it could be hosted in Grand Rapids!!

I wish it could be hosted in Grand Rapids!!
Why can't it be? Get enough volunteers for the host club.
-
The ALA convention is going to be in Grand Rapids next year. We'll see how that goes.

The ACA does not have a club finalized as of today for the 2014 convention, but I am working with another club that has expressed interest. Nothing is set is stone, but you should be aware that MCA is not alone in thinking about this. My recommendation, if you really want to do this, is to get your committee organized by filling the key positions of chair, show chair, vendor chair and registration chair. Those are the jobs that require the most planning and time. The rest of the jobs are labor intensive, but can be filled later. Look at the link I posted earlier and that will give you an idea of what each position requires. Hotels fill in fast so finding a hotel in the size, price range and availability would be a key first step.
My plan is get 2014 finalized before the end of this year. To do it right, it takes at least 2 years to plan this event, so we are already late to the game. If you are serious, I am more than happy to talk to your group on the telephone and answer any questions you might have. Also, MCA hosted and I chaired the 1999 ACA convention in Detroit and there are still some folks left from that convention that would be good resources as well.
If the convention is planned properly and costs are controlled, this will put a nice chunk of change in your treasury and allow you to make improvements to your club either in equipment or in speakers for your monthly meetings.
Yes it is a lot of work, but the payoff is really nice as well.

As I mentioned previously, I would be available if this were to happen. And to Phil, I personally would like to thank you for all your offered assistance. It's definitely appreciated (but not surprising).
But to be brutally honest, I do not see this happening at all and I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting either.
Maybe in the future it could be arranged for a later year but quite frankly, as you already mentioned Phil, it's kinda late to be starting the planning stages to even put a bid in for the event.

Hey Gang
Put us down for two or three (depending on what my little girl can do)
For sure it will be myself and the bride
Be forwarned though....... my bride has a habit to not take the title or office but she does like to take over.

Well if 2014 is too early, why not start looking at 2015?
