Title: Hypomelanistic OB red zebra
Post by: Dan K on July 30, 2012, 07:51:24 PM
Here is a pic showing different variations of my new hypo OB red zebras.
Spots vary from near white to bluish/opaque to nearly brown. They are still young...only about 2 inches and will hopefully mature into something like the white spotted one.

One of them looked like it could be holding when I got them. She would eat bits of flake whenever fed though so I wasn't sure what to think. I couldn't wait any longer today and opened her mouth and found 4 fry fully developed and looking as though they could have been released days ago. I guess she didn't dare release in my 55 with all the other fish in there and just held onto them letting them feed on those bits of flake.

Very nice, How are they doing now ?

The young adults are growing fine and looking good. I have about 12 fry of which only one looks OB. The fry are still small and hopefully I'll get better odds than that out of them as they grow!

I thought with all of the adults being OB that all the fry would be too but they look pretty solid orange at this point.

here are a few more pics........

Now that the fry are getting a little size on them it appears most of them are indeed OB. There is one with darkish spots that I knew was OB from the beginning but most of the rest of them are now beginning to show the very light, nearly white OB spotting. They should be good looking when grown out a bit more.

Some pics of the next generation.....they are throwing some nice looking pink/light lavender males! I'm kicking myself in the behind now for culling a few of those light ones as very young fry because they had no color. They are awesome when grown out.
